72 Galixie 500
This was my baby. The story of this car is an interesting one. It was owned by an old mechanic that owned a repair shop in western Cincinnati where I lived at the time. I used to walk by it often and pine for it. I had owned two 72 Fords like this before this one and was looking for another. Thing is, at the time I was driving a 67 Pontiac Catalina and didn’t have the funds to buy the Ford. One day I was walking by and the Ford looked like it was being packed up to leave. Upon further investigation I discovered that the car had been sold and was indeed leaving. I made a plea to the new owner for a straight up trade for the Pontiac but he didn’t go for it. I left him my number just in case he decided to change his mind. About 6 months went by and I got a call from the owner of the Ford. He asked if the trade was still possible. Thing is, he had just blown up the engine and was trying to unload it. I told him that I would do the trade if he brought an extra $400 to the table. We agreed on $200 and the rest is somewhat history. What he didn’t know was that I had a 429 out of a 69 T-Bird sitting on the floor of my shop looking for a new home. It wasn’t easy getting the engine in, I needed to make some modifications but it lived there nicely once I got it in there. I ended up selling the Galixie for $900 shortly after this video was made. At the time I needed the money more than the car. Sad to see it go but I have the Fairmont now. We’ll see what I can come up with there.
My kids also make a brief appearance in this one. They liked hanging out at the shop with dad. I loved having them there too.
