What Is Heat Soak?
What Is Heat Soak?
You might notice that I leave the hoods open on many of the vehicles in my shop. One of the main reasons I do this is to help reduce Heat Soak after I park them. In this video I talk about what Heat Soak is and why I leave those hoods open.

Electric Engine Cooling Fans
There are many types of electric cooling fans. Some provide a cool-down period, which means the fan continues to run after the engine has been stopped and the ignition switch is turned off. These systems have a second temperature sensor. The fan stops only when the engine coolant falls to a predetermined temperature, usually about 210 °F (98.8 °C). In some systems, the fan does not start when the air conditioner is turned on unless the high side of the A/C system is above a predetermined temperature and/or pressure.

What is Heat Soak?
Heat soak is when the engine’s generation of internal heat exceeds the cooling system capacity to dissipate the heat being generated. The surrounding metal surfaces literally becomes “soaked” in heat which will rob the engine of its ability to generate full power since the air and coolant is literally being heated from the surrounding “heat soaked” metal parts.
