OBD Codes Home
Welcome to our OBD Codes Home Where you can find codes for all of your car and trucks. We currently have a lot of Honda codes and do have a standard OBD II code list so select your OBD on the right in the menu and everything is organized there. We even have some ABS codes too! More will be added as we go! Below are new articles that we publish often.
P0300 – Random Misfire (Cadillac)
This is a Random Misfire code, which happens in some Cadillac vehicles and may be this specific code or any P030# code, where the last number indicates the specific cylinder which is misfiring.
Normally, a P0300 code means the misfire is in several cylinders and so could be several problems at once or one problem unrelated to the engine's timing.
Before checking any of these things, however, the do-it-yourself mechanic should check for other engine codes. If there are no other trouble codes - or if the other codes are all related to the P0300 being thrown – it's not a bad idea to reset the codes (clear them) and drive the car for a few days to see if they come back.
P0172 – O2 Sensor Bank 1; System Too Rich (VW)
Volkswagen vehicles featuring a V6, V8, or V10 gasoline engine may generate this code. It applies to the bank 1 (side of the engine that has cylinder 1) oxygen (O2) sensor.
The P0172 trouble code is set when the engine computer detects too little oxygen in the exhaust on the side of the engine that has cylinder 1. The code indicates that there is too much fuel being injected into the cylinders during combustion. It's not uncommon for P0172 and P0175 to be tripped at the same time, as P0175 is the equivalent code on the bank 2 side of the motor, and this “system too rich” problem usually affects the entire engine rather than just one cylinder or one bank of cylinders.
P0505 – Idle Air Control Valve Malfunction (Honda)
The P0505 error code is one of the problems that the Accord and Civic share – and it's a relatively common problems too. P0505 indicates that the Idle Air Control Valve IACV is not operating correctly.
P0740 – Torque Converter Clutch Malfunction (Honda)
A Torque Converter Clutch Malfunction code happens often on Honda Odyssey minivans from the 1999-2004 period. Unfortunately, this code is usually indicative of a costly problem.
The torque converter is the part of the transmission that converts engine torque into gear shifting for an automatic transmission. When the torque converter (TC) cannot shift gears smoothly while activating the solenoid valve, the P0740 code will be generated. The resulting voltage drop from the failure to activate the solenoid will trigger the engine light and code.
The good news is that if the problem just appeared and is addressed quickly, it may not be the TC that is to blame, making for a far easier fix.
