Hello. I’m facing the following problem: after i put the lever in the 1st gear and release the clutch pedal i can hear a sound like “clunk” from the engine bay on the driver’s side. yesterday before starting the engine i put the lever in the 1st gear, jacked up the driver’s side front wheel and as i was rotating the wheel back and forth i could hear the same “clunk” when reaching the point where it no longer rotates. i think that sound it’s comming from the gearbox differential but i’m not sure of that. what do you think? can that differential be replaced without replacing the whole gearbox?

You need to check your transmission oil first if it dirty and low whit the oil pan gage founf in the engine. Then inspect if nothing block the shifting link. There is no adjustment outside of the initial set up. Hydraulic clutches are designed to be self adjusting. If you’re having an issue it could be the clutch hydraulics OR a clutch issue. You can check the hydraulics for leaks. If you don’t find any then there may be a problem with the clutch components. This video is on a different vehicle but the principals will apply.

In addition to the above advice, check your engine mounts. I would think a loose engine mount might clunk as described above.

I’m with checking the engine mounts. If there is a loose engine mount it can make that noise. It’s a very common issue on manual transmission vehicles. This video might also help if you think the noise is inside the transmission.

engine mounts are ok. it is quite frustrating that i don’t find the appropriate word to describe those 2 noises. For now i have to rebuild the steering rack, sway bar bushings, shock absorbers bearing but as soon as i finish with them i’ll try to make a video. i think that’s the easiest way to describe them. thanks for the support again.:)
