I own a 1993 Honda Civic DX. Within weeks of each other, the car has developed 2 problems; First It started to leak coolant from a heater hose going into the firewall (the hose isn’t damaged though) and I lost heat. Next, upon a cold start, the car idles normally for about a minute and then the idle fluctuates wildly between very high and very low. Extreme Up and down.

Are the two problems related? How do I repair each?

Yes, they are related. Hondas suffer from surging idle when there is air in the coolant. You’ll need to get in there to find the leak. Once you fix that, fill and properly bleed the coolant, and the idle should settle down.
