Just wondering If any of you use the AutoEnginuity scan tool for your laptop and what you think?

I looked at a lot of different OBD-II scan tools trying to find something that would come close to what the dealerships use (for instance, give access to all/most of the manufacturer
January 30, 2012 at 11:00 am #444092Thanks for the info, I don’t own a shop I just mess around on weekends now, mostly on domestic cars but I was thinking about a scan tool that I could work on some asian models since I have family and friends that like them. I kinda knew Id be spending a few bucks for the capability that I want and I don’t think Id be happy with the Inovia. THANKS AGAIN.
January 31, 2012 at 11:00 am #444093I’ve been thinking about that software for myself. It looks very nice. I like the idea of using a laptop as opposed to needing several tools to do the same work. It’s a bit pricey for my tastes, though, especially since I’d use it mostly on my own vehicle – perhaps occasionally on vehicles for family and friends.
January 31, 2012 at 11:00 am #444094It works out great if your family and friends only drive one make of car – you just buy that package and you’re set. If everyone drives something different then it definitely gets pricey.
January 31, 2012 at 11:00 am #444095Good scan tools will never be cheap!
$700 you can get a pretty good used snapon mt-2500 setup that will do domestic cars, I have a mtg-2500 (the G stands for graphing, the regular mt-2500 does not do graphing) that I have about $1500 into but I have software for domestic, Asian, Vw/audi and all the adaptors and personality keys. But I also have a small business repairing vehicles too so it might be a little pricey for some people (DIY’ers looking for something just for their own car) to buy.
I know sears has one that does abs and obd-2 for pretty cheap.February 4, 2012 at 11:00 am #444096I just have the auto xray ez scan 6000. I have ran in to vehicles such as the years of 96 in Chrysler that I can not use it on, but for most domestic vehicles I have had good luck on. I think the price would be around 600 or so as of now. Not perfect but gives some communication to the pcm.

It will scan them, i can run a full system diagnostics on my truck with it, i just crank the engine and it overrides the ecu. Ie, it reads codes as they happen, not what the computer has in store.
And it’s an “Autox-ray Ez 2000”
I unfortunately do not have the right connections on my comp to update it. most older computers have the connection though.
February 18, 2012 at 11:00 am #444101I am also looking at Auto Tap Express DIY. This may be something you may want to look at.

February 21, 2013 at 9:23 pm #502106I”m bumping this thread because the question that the OP asked was not answered. Does anybody here have experience with Autoenginuity? To me it seems very attractive as an upgrade of the typical scan tools available. I want to see and graph real time PCM and sensor data, hopefully be able to turn some sensors and fans etc on and off, and I want the potential to work on all cars. Oh, yeah, I don’t want to spend many thousands on something like the Varus, ha ha.
