Getting Your Vehicle Ready For Winter with ACDelco

Winter is upon us here in the northern hemisphere. That means inclement weather, possibly very cold temperatures, and less daylight to work with. The last thing I want to deal with in these conditions are issues with my vehicles. Therefore, I do what I can to check and maintain my vehicles before the bad weather starts.
I’m not the only one recommending this practice. ACDelco also recommends having your vehicle checked over before winter. This can help prevent a break down at a very inopportune time, and keep your vehicle safe and running in peak condition during the winter months.
Here are a few tips on getting your vehicle ready for winter.
ACDelco recommends having your battery, brakes, wipers, and filters checked before winter sets in. I’d also thrown in checking your tires as well. Traction is good, especially on snow and ice.
Batteries get old, and when they do, they may not start your vehicle. This is especially true in extreme temperatures. Very cold, or very hot temperatures effect your vehicles battery. Not in a good way. That’s why I recommend getting your battery checked before winter. The last thing you want is to go out on a cold morning to start your vehicle, only to find that it doesn’t. Play sad trombone here. To prevent the sad trombone and make sure your vehicle starts when you need it to, have it checked out before it gets cold.
Wipers are also important. When the snow and sleet fly, it’s good to be able to see where you’re going. Otherwise you may run into something expensive. I can’t count how many vehicles I encounter needing wiper blades. No one seems to think about them until they need them. That’s why checking them before there’s a problem is a great idea. This way you won’t be driving like Ray Charles on a moonless night.
Brakes. Well, without them, I’m sure there would be a lot more accidents. Especially during bad weather. That’s why I also recommend having them checked before there’s a problem. Having your brakes fail is never a good thing, especially in the winter. Better to have them looked over before there’s trouble.
As for filters, your engine breaths just like you do. How would you feel if you had to run around all winter with a dirty rag in your mouth? That’s what it’s like for your engine with a dirty air filter. Better to have it checked so your engine can breath easy this winter.
If you’re like me, you’ll likely want to do this work yourself. If you have a GM vehicle, know that ACDelco is the original equipment supplier for GM and in my humble opinion, the best parts to put onto your GM vehicle. Personally, I like to use original equipment parts whenever possible. That way I know it’s going to fit, and also work, as good, if not better, than the parts I’m replacing.
In the case of batteries, know that ACDelco batteries come with a ‘free replacement’ limited warranty. That can be very handy if you don’t want to get your hands dirty if there’s ever a problem with your battery. As for the ACDelco parts I mentioned, you can use this link to help you find them locally.
If you’re not the type of person to do your own auto repair and maintenance, you can use this store locator to find your local ACDelco service center.
Either way, you’ll be in good hands with your GM vehicle, and you’ll have the piece of mind knowing the parts and service you’ll get, are as good as it gets when it comes to your GM vehicle. Keep in mind, ACDelco makes parts for all makes and models as well.
In summary, when the weather changes, check your vehicle over to make sure it’s in tip top condition. If you don’t feel comfortable handling this important task yourself and you have a GM vehicle, find a local ACDelco center and have them do the work for you. I know they’ll do their best to make sure you’re vehicle is not only ready for winter, but running in peak condition.
