My read was a secondary filter in the return line. Not sure as to the need, but as long as the correct filter is in the transmission, it wouldn’t hurt anything..

First, the cooling system must develop some pressure, as it is needed for proper performance; performance meaning running correctly.
Second, you have problems there that need to be addressed. Head gasket being the first; there is NO workaround for a blown head gasket..

Under $75 with a six month warrantee.
Beat on the one you have after you have it back on the road, and if you fix it, you can list it, with the experience 😉

I agree. There are a number of parts, that are just simpler to replace as an assembly. Often it is cheaper to do it that way as well, if not in cost, then in time spent.
For example, 91 Camry, lower control arm with new ball joint, ~$40 eBay. The bushings cost as much. 97 Accord, upper control arm, $28 shipped. New bushings and ball joint.
In both cases, the work would require removing the assembly, taking to a press, removing and replacing the bushings/ball joint, then reinstalling it. Instead, you pull it, and put the new one in.
Replacing the seals on a rack is rather intensive..

Funny, but true story.. Guy I was working for changed out the plugs and wires in his ex-school bus (Mopar 318). He comes in wanting my help, as it’s a no start.
He had the wires to the distributor one hole off. Charged him an extra $30 for the day..
Moral; it’s best to do them one at a time. Wires, or plugs..
