Type of vehicle may help get you better help.
      One tip.
Make sure steering wheel is centered straight forward before you begin. You also need to a way of measuring tie rod lengths to get a good rough alignment. I measure between inside rim at back and to front of inside rim. By doing this, I use a solid object such as a 1×2 furring strip, that is just short on length to go in between rims, and use measuring tape for one end only. Pay attention to how you can accurately place furring strip in exact repeated locations. Do not take loose untill you have done that first. Do one side at a time.
They will still need alignment, but should get in a ballpark area to get to the alignment shop.

        Rick ,+1.

Socal, my reference for the rpm is about, if crank shaft sensor is not giving a feed to computer, asd relay will not be fired to give you ignition or fuel.
That is a first to look at when no rpm’s are registering if you have a tach. Now that I said that, you turn key on and you heard fuel pump run a couple seconds, Right? That is normal when you first turn on the key, call it a prime. Chrysler with the asd relay will not give battery voltage to them components until things like a signal from ckp sensor.
If battery is low power as others mentioned before, may not have enough power to supply anything while cranking engine. Charge battery and then start looking at what ways to check and verify crank shaft sensor to see if that is problem. Did you do work just recently where some thing could have got tugged on, yanked loose?

Escorts in early to mid 90’s used screws on the drums for rear brakes also. I would reuse until it was too much of a pain to get them off with impact driver, then shook my head and said, WHY!

I just have the auto xray ez scan 6000. I have ran in to vehicles such as the years of 96 in Chrysler that I can not use it on, but for most domestic vehicles I have had good luck on. I think the price would be around 600 or so as of now. Not perfect but gives some communication to the pcm.

The only difference from the Focus to Escort will be the Escort has a cross member (for lack of a better word) from the front to just about under the drivers feet that also has mounts for the motor and tranny to keep from rocking forward or back.

You will have to drop that cross member. 2 bolts up front, I believe 18 or 19 mm socket. 2 or possibly 3 bolts to the rear of it, and then your mounts bolts. Yes, you will need to support the motor. Check with a auto parts store, they may have one to rent.

I would watch coolant for short time to see if you are losing any. My mother has a 98 Chrysler van that over heated on her last summer because of radiator fan problem, when she was out of town. A auto service told her head gaskets were bad. I told her that was correct cause I noticed it a couple years back, but was watching it. Uses some coolant, but not that much so she just keeps running it.

2800 dollars for estimate? I hope at least a shoe shine with that!

Yes, change the gasket as already said or otherwise you will be scratching your head trying to figure out why you have a lean trouble code when done!

That reminds me of a couple of years ago. I had to buy a new spade and did not want a cheap made in china piece of crap. Seen this nice spade that cost at least 3 times of other spades there. Fiskars, made in U.S.A. was on the label. I was happy I found a made in U.S.A. spade, bought it never thought twice of the price. I got home started digging and noticed a big “CHINA” on back of spade. I was so P O ‘d, made telephone calls to Fiskars, e-mailed other such as orgs of MADE IN THE USA to let it be known I did not appreciate how the tags of origin are done.

It gets my heart rate up every time I think about it!

That is the one thing that makes me mad about Ford. They discontinue parts way to fast.

+1 with dreamer. Grab hold of objects around that area and lightly pull on things to see if you can get it to stop. I have had several Escorts over the years and it seems they all talk different with

Good for you. Keep that a goal in your life. When I was young I did way to much partying. It is a dead end street with nothing but much more frustrating problems. I have not consumed alcohol for 22 years now, and do not miss it.
