I probably wouldn’t unless it was a Honda. Not to be biased to other vehicle makes but I’m most comfortable around them, I feel as though I can give an educated enough guess as to what their problem might be, I can either fix it or tell them what they need and where to have it fixed. If it’s a dead battery I’ll help a person out anytime – believe me I know how much that sucks.

One guy down the street from me, every time I’ll help him. He’d do the same – he taught me how to change my oil and I’ve been learning since then. He recently purchased 2 older used Honda’s and I’ve been helping him with things like the maintenance minder codes and maintenance specific things I’ve encountered with my Honda – it’s nice having a neighbour that isn’t stuck up their own ass.

It’s a 1994 Honda Civic, they would be dime a dozen at the scrap yard. I would let the insurance company write it off, then offer to buy it back from them and fix it. You could probably buy it back and fix it for $600. I know if it was me and my car was vandalized and written off I would be buying that car back and fixing it myself, it’s hard to find reliable, cheap transportation these days and I would rather buy my old problems back than buy somebody else’s problems and start over again.

I would be very cautious about using a product that goes on and hardens, I know at least with my car I would never be able to get the undercarriage sufficiently clean and dry to use a product like that, which is why I use Krown – every winter I take the car in and have it sprayed. They drill holes in the doors, rockers, everywhere and spray the fluid inside the doors, underneath, the engine compartment, basically anything below the belt line is sprayed. My car is a mess all winter because the stuff creeps all winter, but stays wet. I also take a can of Fluid Film and coat anything I feel isn’t coated to my likings.

I will say the Krown/Fluid Film keeps new rust from forming – I’ve been underneath my car and there is no rust on the undercarriage, but it’s not a “cure” for old rust. There was a poor body repair done on the rear quarter panel of my car and no amount of undercoating kept it from spreading.
