They are normally a little tight when you first get them, make sure the alternator is very loose and pushed in so that there is room to prior it over the pulley.
If it is too tight to go on, I would suggest go and get a oem belt from your mazda dealer as forcing it on can damage your alternator bearing.

Once you have replaced your timing belt/tensioners and water pump I think your problem will be fixed.
With your harmonic balancer you can use a three fork puller which you can buy from any hardware store like these

Try pulling out your crank sensor and giving it a good clean, take it for a drive and see if it plays up again.

Ha ok, I jump the gun.
Looking forward to see what you do to the ford, its great to see someone work on the older style cars where it it is more hands on than just plugging a scan tool in and reading codes.
            Keep up the great work.

Sounds like your cam timing is out.
line up your crank to tdc and take off tappet cover and check that the cams are lined up properly

I would check map sensor first as that is what your computer reads as an error code and with a bad map sensor the ecu doesn’t know what fuel/air mixture to use.

Great vid Eric but I would have thought the frame connectors would had have some sort of middle brace/cross member to add abit more stability between the two frame connectors.
I have seen them on the mazda mx5 which are like a rectangle shape under the car to stiffen the chassis.

mighty car mod link but the same idea.

Check that the hose from the iacv isnt blocked or dirt inside of it.
It would have nothing to do with your coil problem may have something to do with your idle problem.
With your coil problem I would make sure you have good connections on your battery and check that you have good earth too. If you have changed the coil packs in the past it would be a weak ignition system somewhere and first would be to check that you have a good battery and good connections.

Check your iacv ‘idle air control valve’.

I have heard of people retention there head bolts and that cured the small oil leak they get from time to time.

Check brake pads as one side could have worn more than the other or if are good adjust the brake pads on the stiff side to free it up abit.

Have you tried to advance your timing abit to see if the idle smooths out?
