The last place i worked there was kind of a bad apple. He wasn’t a bad mechanic, he just was negative. It was hard to be happy around him. He did his job very well but it was hard to be near him because he would just rant about work, life and everything. Was rare to hear something positive from him.
He ended up quitting after things got slow. Was kinda quiet around the shop after he left. The last place i worked there was kind of a bad apple. He wasn’t a bad mechanic, he just was negative. Sometimes you gotta go where the work is, its what i did. Not easy but can be worth it in the long run. I make 8$ more then i would if i found a job back home. Most of the advice has been said…

We have to pay parts and labor for misdiagnoses?
It depends on your state and depends on if you need that job or not.
The only time I would charge a tech is if they maliciously damaged something (temper tantrum) or if they were being lazy and failed to do something they knew or were told that they were supposed to do.
Another issue I have been seeing is many of the shops here in the south do not have insurance.
Welcome to the world of “right to work” where you have less rights and less work.I would say time to leave the job, move to a new state, or country and find a better job.

CP CP789R-26 3/8 drill.
I tend to have to install a lot of S/N plates so I got a amall 3/8 drill for it. Was sick of borrowing everyone’s 1/2 drills that were too slow.CP CP789R-26 3/8 drill.

I have a bad back my self and i noticed after a few weeks of doing it my pain is down to almost nothing. I don’t feel stiff after work.
As for the boots, cat boots are shit. (i use to work for a cat dealer and we all hated them) Red Wings are awesome boots, and i swear by them; that and Dr Martens.
Also posture is key to a good back and neck. Learning to control your stance and movement is another great way to stop the pain. Chiropractor can help for a short time, but a physiotherapist can teach you how to control your posture and teach you stretches that will help YOUR body.I do daily stretching at work, it part of our morning meeting. While some of the smaller “backyard” mechanics price it out at around 50+ US or so.
So in some cases you might be able to make 100k US here if you are lucky or good at what you do. But at the same point our cost of living is also most likely much higher then in the US
This reminds me of what an operator said to me about a year ago while i was working in Yellowknife. Shop rates for HET was 150$ an hour, field truck rates were 200-300 an hour. A lot of people went up to Yellowknife with a service truck and worked on small to large piece of equipment making between $150K to $400K a year working months straight with mega long hours(12-16+ hours) and only having to work 6 month.
It’s not easy, Yellowknife is in the middle of no where, during spring and fall its a fly in only city. It gets cold as fuck (-30*C to -50*C). It can be dark out all day, or light out all day depending on the time of year. -
