Yes there is lot of other stuff in the circuit but compressor itself is most likely problem. If you just wire compressor directly to battery (with fuse) you’ll also get same info that is the problem with compressor. You may not have to do anything with “freon” if you only replace ac clutch.

It is wasted spark system so both spark plugs of same coil fire at once. So putting wires of same coil backwards shouldn’t matter. But since it did maybe there is problem with wires or coils.

Using one wrench and hammer is normally better for rusted bolts. And take your time ad penetrating fluid and try again.

Those are pretty good at gathering fault codes. So read fault codes (you’ll need VAG specific scanner). But many of fault codes may be unrelated and not really matter so don’t start replacing parts.

A bit heavier oil is better for really worn engine. Oil consumption or leaks don’t mean engine is worn. For example going from xW-30 to xW-40. But oils have other characteristics than viscosity so you do have to take other thing into consideration. It will keep oil pressure closer to what it was on new engine. But don’t use too heavy oil it will make too much pressure somewhere and not enough on others.

That looks easy enough that you could just use vice grips.

It’s colder here and tools on walls and on wooden drawers of cold garage newer rust. If your tools fit in the tool box then I would just take it inside. Oiling the tools will also keep them from rusting and its good idea anyways for some tools.

Don’t keep them in a box.
