I agree,
I don’t think people realize how much thought goes into the car that their driving, especially anything made in the last 20 years. The stock car that you get is as efficient as possible within reason. The automaker wants the car to be as fast and fuel efficient as possible with for the money they have to spend to make it. There aren’t bottle necks that you can simply fix by swapping a part out (its another story if your bypassing emission controls and stuff like that).Back in the day (before modern computer modeling and our competitive market) there were probably more weak points in the system that maybe you could just slap on an aftermarket air intake or larger valves to get more power. I don’t think that that is the case.
I think that the way to go is pick your modification and analyse it to find all of the supporting mods you’ll need. For instance your weight loss. One exhaust manifold isn’t much, but if you managed to swap out more parts and shave off 200 lbs then you should would notice a difference on the Integra.

A few months ago my wife and I were looking at a 2008 Mercury Sable. Everything looked really good, but i wanted an inspection. I’m new to town, so I got recommendations on where to go. I took in the car they inspected showed me a leaking PTO.
Long story short i didn’t buy the car but the shop did the inspection for free. Just because of that I feel very loyal to them and I want to take my car to them becuase I know that they care about me more than my money.I know your delema Eric.
I have two 99 Saturn SL1s. One has front end damage, a weakening auto transmission, but otherwise in great condition. It was obviously well taken care of.
I recently purchased the second one for $450. The engine has a tick, and the interior is shot, but it’s a five speed.
I’m thinking an engine and interior swap, but winter is coming.
I know what you mean by opportunity and silliness. The only reason I’ve gotten into automotive repair is because of a couple of problematic cars, now that I know I can do it myself it has become extremely rewarding( sense of accomplishment and $$$).
Mostly thanks to ETCG and you guys on the forum.
I’ve filled the tires myself and they are correct.
That’s interesting about the hardness of the tire. I bought them new, but they were cheap tires (Douglas I believe). Their about a year old. When I first started diagnosing this I actually wondered about the tire pressure because it felt sloppy. I have recently checked the pressure.
The problem is that it just doesn’t feel as tight as it used to. Maybe when its warmer I can inspect the rack and linkage ( I’m in northeastern Indiana).
It takes less than an inch to move the wheel and I have checked the tire pressure.
Basically, maybe the Buick is set up differently
I only had one floor jack and two jack stands when I did this and it required some juggling.
That looks almost exactly like what happened to my 2005 Chevy Impala, the right side right? I am not sure about other cars but on this vintage of GM it is rather easy. I looked up the part on AC Delco’s website and it is exactly the same for both of our cars. I’ll put a link to a great video about it below. They explain it well. The only problem is that there is less clearance in the sedan than the minivan (the video is of a minivan). So you will need to do one of two things. Drop the sub frame below the sway bar to get the old one out and new one in, or find the one way where it almost fits through and tap it through with a hammer 😉 . If you haven’t already guessed I hit it through with a hammer.
But like I said it is very straight forward in this case. Also you won’t need to get a vehicle alignment either which is nice.
Hope it helps.
I’m a DIY looking to buy some quality tools, but I don’t have a lot of money to drop on them. I have a done a lot of work on my 99 Saturn and a 05 Impala and I only come across Metric sizes so far. Do US brands use US sizes anymore? If they don’t then should I just buy a metric set? I do have a complete HF set of sockets currently.
I’ve been in a couple of minor accidents, all of which were being in the wrong place at the wrong time, but it has showed me how quickly a normal drive can change. It also makes me think how much worse it would have been if I was distracted during the accident. Last winter a lady ran a stop sign and pulled in front of me. I braked and slid into her, I also turned to avoid her. I probably would have hit her driver side door if I had not turned or braked.
I’m certainly guilty of texting at a stop light or eating a burger as I drive down the road. One way to keep myself from being distracted is to give someone else the phone and have them respond for me, usually my wife.
My rule of thumb for if its distracting is two fold. If it moves my eyes from the road, or if it moves my thoughts from the road. You always have to see and asses the situation around you that is constantly changing.

Video and sound were great, very impressive. The ETCG1 logo may be a little to large though.

Can you deadhead a system without a return line, or is it already deadheading?
