That is very true Eric. I work at a toyota dealership, our owner has a lexus down the street and we get lexus vehicles coming in all the time becaise they cant afford to take their car to lexus. Also seen so many high end cars that people cant afford to maintain. My opinion is if you cant afford the upkeep dont buy it.

You can check the belts by twisting them. they should not twist more than 90 degrees in the longest spot.

December 16, 2012 at 6:38 am in reply to: Brake system leak what is the best way to find it? #484982if you checked the whole brake line system and dont see any leaks, remove the drums (if equipped) and check the wheel cylinders for leakage. If those aren’t leaking, you’re gonna have to unbolt the master from the brake booster (if equipped) and see if that seal is leaking. You can check the vacuum line going to the booster if there is any fluid in there, sometimes if its leaking bad enough there will be some brake fluid there. Good luck!

based on those pictures, toyota would clean up the rust and rust proof it with undercoating. There are tacomas that got bought back, but thats if it was 2000 or older and had a hole in the frame from rusting out.

not at my shop. at my shop you get same labor if you replace them or resurface them.

hacks that rip people off and get lazy not doing the job right. An alignment doesn’t take 2 minutes to do, and brake pads don’t need to be replaced at 6mm left. Also, the brake rotors CAN be resurfaced, don’t just throw new rotors at the car cause you’re too lazy to resurface them. Makes my blood boil sometimes.

there are going to be emission codes that will affect performance, esp. a leaking egr, where the air/fuel mixture gets diluted. But if you have an evap leak or something, then it wont affect it. The government does push the manufacturer further each year. But also its the competition between the manufacturers for mpg’s and cutting down the cost of maintaining the cars. Each year at my dealership when we do our new vehicle modules they always have new codes coming out with them with the new systems.
