      Thanks.
As it happened, the $8 Harbor Freight Locking Oil Filter Wrench (http://www.harborfreight.com/locking-oil-filter-wrench-66570.html) did the trick. It clamped on to the canister and my son whacked it from behind and the axle popped loose with no damage. He reset the seal and it is working fine now.

Thank you for taking the time to find and post the video. Unfortunately the Sonata and Accent are not the same. The accent has a flange about half an inch deep surrounding the base of the inner CV joint canister, and we can think of no pry tool we can fit into it.

Last night I bought a locking oil filter wrench which is like a vice grips with wider jaws. It will fit over the canister and hopefully grip tight enough and be strong enough that we can take a hammer and block of wood and smack it from behind to dislodge the axle.

              Thanks, everyone who answered.
I found a Delco OEM sensor on Amazon for $44 so I ordered it and I’ll see if this one lasts. If not, I will take that one suggestion to just unplug the sensor. Since the car isn’t losing coolant and I check it once in a while, and the temp gauge works, there’s not much harm if the level sensor isn’t working.

Good tip. I do have a scanner that can read live data.

Thanks for taking the time for the reply. I know my car isn’t dangerously hot, but where you drew the needle at the half way mark is where it gets now when I idle, or maybe just a bit higher than the middle mark. Not dangerous, but for 11 years and over a hundred thousand miles, the needle never got that high. So I am just puzzled, is all.
