I picked up a pair of Blackhawk by PROTO long nose pliers off of ebay for $30 with free shipping. Made in the USA!

I just bought these hose pinch pliers, S-K 7603. 2 1/2″ capacity. Now, I just have to get the other 2 sizes! 🙂

I believe alot depends on the part. The warranty on some aftermarket parts along with the cost make them pretty attractive and a sensible solution for a DIY guy like me that has several high mileage vehicles. I can buy a rebuilt alternator with a lifetime warranty for $100 or spend $250 on OEM with a one year warranty. I keep my vehicles for a long time so I might actually use that lifetime warranty. I believe the OEM part should be closer in price and a better warranty.

I’d start with a 1/4″ and 3/8″ drive SAE and metric socket set. Some short and long extensions. A good set of combination wrenches SAE and metric. Needle nose pliers, side cutting pliers, vise grips, slip joint pliers, a pair of groove joint pliers (Channellock). A 24 oz. ball pein hammer. Good utility knife. Good set screwdrivers, including Torx. I’ll think of more later.
