I started noticing the problem about 2 tanks after the new exhaust was installed, first i thought it was a coincidence or something…
-I check my tire pressure on a regular base, it stays within specification
i looked at my air filter, nothing special about it-My brakes make no noise, also i checked if they were (too) hot after a drive, nothing special here too.
– oil is changed every year
– fuel filter is about 1.5 years oldI don’t really know what my car is equipped with emission wise, it has 3 box like things in the exhaust system.
I do have a sensor in the exhaust manifold, also in the intake manifold.
No check engine light has come up…I started noticing the problem about 2 tanks after the new exhaust was installed, first i thought it was a coincidence or something…

if you want some proof of how agressivei’ve used it on older cars used for autocross_x000D_

It might increase the bhp a bit, and the engine revs a bit faster. But i don’t think this is proven._x000D_
It can also eat away on fuel lines, seals etc. but my cars usually don’t last enough to have any of thoswe’ve worked on the carb, we tried to set it up right by changing the mixture screw… however we could turn it in and out and the engine didn’t sound any different so there was something wrong with that.
We removed the screw, cleaned the hole out with compressed air, we also cleaned the inside of the carb + the jets. Now it seems to run smoothly again + the engine seems to respond to the mixture screw being adjusted.
We still have to do a serious test run, but it seems like its fixed!
So the carb is also influenced by the heat of the engine? since when its cold it idles smooth, and doesn’t backfire as much
Quoted From college man:
It probably would not hurt to pick up a new set of
points and condenser. set the gap. clean and
lube the points gear. next would be mechanical
timing. also look at vacuum advance. make sure
the diaphragm works and that the springs are
intact and the weights move. after those checks
you may need to adjust the carb you may also
need to check your base idle screw.I did check/test all of the ignition equipment and it works fine, all sparkplugs fire (sparkplugs are new)
And because the car runs smooth when cool and doesn’t misfire i don’t think the ignition is to blame.“also look at vacuum advance. make sure
the diaphragm works and that the springs are
intact and the weights move”Could you please show a picture of what you are talking about here? english isn’t my native language and i have no idea what these parts are :$
okay thanks alot for your advice!
I found a good guide on the internet on how to do a basic carb recalibration
I’ll keep you guys updated!
Quoted From EricTheCarGuy:
+1 on the carburetor rebuild, a properly rebuilt and calibrated carburetor can do wonders in a situation like yours. Think of them like grandfather clocks, when they’re right they keep great time but if you don’t wind them up or maintain them they just don’t work right and given that yours sat for that prolonged period of time I would say that’s a great place to start.
maybe a good idea for a new video? :p there are a few basic guides around but i’m sure mechanics like you have a few tricks and do’s and dont’s
