I would recommend an OE thermostat if you are going to replace it as there is a big difference in quality with the aftermarket units. Everything you describe sounds like air in the system however so I would recommend you repair the leaking radiator, bleed the system, and then recheck for the symptoms you’re having.

      Hi Eric.
I put in a brand new rad and tstat. I didn’t get oe parts.
Money is tight at the moment.
I filled her up with coolant and opened the bleed screw until coolant came out and topped up rad. I put the rad cap on then and kept her running 2000rpm till the fan cut in. Then I checked coolant level again.
Took her for a spin but I’m still getting pinking.
I have no hot air in cabin. The valve is open to leave hot water to the cabin rad.
I have an issue under the dash somwhere with some door/flap I think?
Im also still using bk44 which has not run its full can yet.
Il check again tomoro and try another bleed on the system.
      Cheers.

        Just a small update.
I removed the tstat and Put it in boiling water and it opened.
However where the valve seats closed there is arubber seal there which has sort of perished away. I guess it still needs to be replaced.
I’ve left it now for the time being.

I’ve seen this movie a couple of times and you first need to drain the tank and start over, running it through the system really isn’t a good idea. You may get lucky Honda for many years had a drain plug in the fuel tank, if you have one of these great but if not you’re going to have to siphon out all the old fuel and put new in. Once you’ve done that change the fuel filter and run the remaining stuff through the system and you should be fine.

            Hi Eric.
I just mixed it down with petrol.
I’ve ran about 5 full tanks since it happend.
I’ve put In bg44k last nite but pinging is still there.
What I did notice tho was the front radiator is weeping coolant and my heaters put out cold air only.
Fans kick in and temp needle is showing normal.
I wonder is that the cause of my pinging?

Thanks. I haven’t repaired the fracture in the rad.
I’ve bled the system and still have no hot air coming into the cabin.
The flap For cold Hot isn’t moving on the pipe but I can move it with my hand, but still no hot air comes into cabin.

Il start a new thread as this one has split into something else.

No didn’t get around ireland unfortunately.
But I do have a heavy right foot!
I got some bk 44 from my local mercedes garage and have it in the tank at the moment.
I used the whole can to 25 litres.
Hopefully a strong concentration will clean out the top end.
Oh yea I only did an oil change recently, do you think I need to change again?

Diesel cars are more popular over here alright mainly due to economy. I prefer petrol power though.
                Cheers.

I think you may have drained and filled with the ignition on.
I’m sure I’ve seen that before on Vw cars.
