      Pt. 4

So this past Saturday I finally got working on my Accord in the shop. I made quite a bit of progress, made revelations, and ordered MORE car parts…

      So far I’m now replacing:

      1. Timing Belt
      2. Water Pump
      3. Timing tensioners
      4. Oil Pump seals
      5. Crank & Camshaft seals
      6. Balance shaft seal
      7. Timing Belt Cover
      8. Head Gasket & Bolts
      9. Heater Hose (had to cut it to get head off)
      10. Spark plug O-rings
      11. 2 Exhaust Manifold studs
      12. Manifold gaskets

Got the originally broken exhaust manifold stud off! Yay!

And stripped the one I broke…

It’s now 7.35 mm from 8 mm… just dandy. Next step: have somebody weld a nut on, take a HUGE breaker bar to it

Oh, and use an impact socket… Cause this is what happens if you don’t. Broke mine trying to undo the head bolts (to be fair, spec is 181ft-lbs.)

Got the head off! Inspected the valves and pistons for witness marks, but all is well!
I didn’t follow Eric’s methodology (no offense, and 100% agree for that situation), but I have limited days I can work on the car, and want parts asap and work done in least number of shop days. Plus, I was able to inspect and get an idea of the engine’s state with this entire tear-down.

Here’s all 3 timing covers/ shields. Note lots of oil, and some timing belt shreds. Went through about 5 cans of brake wash cleaning under the cover. Also note the broken holes on the lower cover. With all that, I decided replacement is the best avenue. Thanks amateur or impact-happy mechanic who did it last!

I pulled parts off the car! And set them places!

Here’s the remainder of the timing and timing balancer belt. Will post side-by side comparison next set!

That’s all I’ve done for now. Still have a lot to do, but assembly will hopefully be quicker!
Hope you guys have enjoyed thus far!

        Alright, here comes another batch!

        Pt. 3
Been a several weeks, since I’ve been busy. Working 6 days a week, still taking college classes, waiting for parts, having a life, etc..
My work has shop days where you can use an open service or detail bay and work on your car.

I had it towed to my work, and left it parked in the back lot until I could work on it. This past Saturday, I finally made progress. Didn’t take many pictures, of steps through the work, but I did take a few. I’ll try to take more for y’all this Saturday.

        Without further adieu:

A little gunky under the cover, but not normal.

Can you spot what’s wrong with this picture?

        Timing belt shredded!!

Looks like a dead bird in there…

Oily timing cover, with flecs of shredded belt: Clue A in my hypothesis of what happened.

Well, I have my work cut out for me, for all of the rest of the job.

        TBC…

          Pt 2.

Posted after I started on the project and tear-down, so here is my current progress

Intake tubing, upper manifold/plenum, manifold, exhaust manifold all removed

Alternator removed, power steering pump dismounted as well

“That there’s one of ’em F22B2’s”

Found the exhaust gasket burnt in the corner, corner exhaust manifold stud broken, but never fixed.

I happened to break the other corner … Too short for the 2-nut method, but attempting to JB weld the nut on, then unscrew it. Fingers crossed…

Previous owner “attempted” to “repair” the cruise control housing…

Took some pictures today, thought I’d share. You can see it hasn’t well-tended in its life, but I’m not doing a perfect restoration. Just need a daily driver.
