Thanks, classes are over but me and another student are putting my teachers 6.5 Detroit diesel back together and putting the engine back in the vehicle starting Wednesday. I’ll see if I have time before or after to change the fluid, if not I’ll take it a local shop. $50 for fluid and filter change.

Just started her up and took a video yet no clicking noise, the lifter must’ve been clogged with a piece of dirt or something. I’ll change oil here today to make sure.
As for the transmission, should I change the fluid or will those particles likely clog something up and turn my smooth shift into whiplash’ers?

They’re essentially the same thing, My teacher started automotive in the 70’s so he’s old school, which rubs off on some of us. I’m worried about the noise because my vehicle uses hydraulic roller lifters which should be silent unless the lifter is clogged and is getting no oil to the adjustable piston. I’m going to change oil within the next 500 miles so I’ll add some seafoam next time and hope it quiets down, if not I’m just going to check the valve lash, lifters and push rods in the case that one is bent.
I’ll shoot a video tomorrow. It’s a steady “tick, tick, tick” at idle. I heard it this morning but it went away as I left for class but then again I park in front of the garage and next to the porch which tends to amplify engine noises. I may just pick up a mechanics stethoscope from the auto parts store tomorrow.

Short and sweet version.
Car started rattling and banging last year, intermittently. Now car rattles like crazy. Sound has been been narrowed down to pulleys. Noticed a couple months ago the PS pulley wobbles fore to aft (parallel to front of engine). Attempted to replace pulley, found out Alternator, Water pump and Idler pulley must come out, which means I need dex cool and PS fluid. Pulley while on shaft will move back and forth 1/8 inch or so and knocks when it can’t be moved anymore. (some websites say this is normal, my genius teacher says not normal). Couple of weeks ago I noticed burnt rubber smell after vehicle had been driven for a while (can’t get it to do so right after taking off) at and above 2500 rpms.
Took it to the dealership under warranty, their report:
Pulley Wobble not normal, but not severe enough to warrant replacement.
Techs claim they hear no rattling, PS shaft has zero play.
Wheel bearing found to have too much play.Is it the wheel bearing or could the burning smell be due to a bad PS bearing? The smell is identical to burning rubber but the serpentine belt shows no signs of heavy wear.
If anyone wants to buy an 09 Lacrosse for 10.5k message me. Had one problem followed shortly by another since I got it….

You also must reset the torque wrench to zero when done with it. I know the my teacher said to on certain vehicles you must torque the spindle nut, back it off a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Hondas also use a cotter pin to keep the nut from backing off. Lastly, did you stake the nut to axle shaft after torquing it?

Last Sunday I went into Wal-Mart around 8pm. I noticed a guy on the corner with a guitar, some sort of drum pedal and drum. He had no shirt, was wearing old raggity sweat pants and had a beard jesus would be jealous of. I had no cash on me, but when I drove by a second time on the way out I saw the look of helplessness in his eyes so I drove about a mile to a gas station and withdrew 20 dollars from my account. I drove back to Wal-Mart and handed the guy the $20 bill, he thanked me and I nodded my head and told him to take care of himself (not in a cynical way).

Community College. I’ve come to realize the program I am in is poorly funded and planned out which making learning more difficult than it needs to be. I end up spending a lot of time on google and wikipedia because my book is poorly researched and written. It seems like the author assumes you already know quite a bit about the subject when the reality is I’m still a novice.
