I have school again tomorrow then we have spring break. I’m going out early in order to take my car to a detail shop. If the problem persists I’ll take it in to the dealer.

February 16, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: What is this I’m hearing about “preparing” an engine for synthetic oil? #457515Its an 09 Buick Lacrosse with 18,700 miles on it, so I’m not worried about leaks.

February 14, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: What is this I’m hearing about “preparing” an engine for synthetic oil? #457508Thanks, I know there alot of conflicting info about synthetic oils. My co-signer keeps bitching about how if I switch back to convention at any point during the life of the engine I’ll ruin it. Bunch of BS, You can switch back and forth a couple times, not every oil change.
February 11, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: 1994 Buick Century Custom, Possible oil pump replacement. #435803I know. Its going to stay in the car until the person who buys it changes the oil.

Possibly a camshaft broken in half and this a very common problem with the 3100.Have seen this a few times, pull the camshaft out and it is broken.Engine block is automatically junk when this happens.Found out why it happens too,the engine block was was not casted right and the 3100 engine blocks were casted in China. The camshaft journals were casted offset and Jasper,an engine/transmission reman company is the only place that has the tooling to fix this problem.
Camshaft shouldn’t be broken. I’m getting 21-25mpg out of it. Guy at work listened to it and said it sounds like a bad camshaft bearing. make sense. I remember back in 09 I was quite buzzed and tried to back out of a driveway with the parking brake on. Noise started after that. I just switched to 10w-40 and after it idles 5-10 mins the noise is gone.
February 7, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: 1994 Buick Century Custom, Possible oil pump replacement. #435796Well, The Century had no chance in hell of passing inspection, so I upgraded to a 2009 Buick Lacrosse CX. Anyone wanna buy a POS Century let me know. =]

I would have possible fixed your old vehicle than buying a newer one.
However, that vehicle would make a great learning vehicle if your interested in the automotive field.
Good luck with the new Buick!
Lol, I started Automotive Technology Classes on Jan 9th. So far I’ve gotten %100 on three assignments in my brakes and suspension class and an 87% and 89% on quizzes in my manual transmissions class. I’m going for my ASE so I’m getting better grades than the kids who are there just for fun. As far as the Century goes I’m going to clean up the interior and sell it on cragislist as is.
Whoa, I missed alot. I have about $400 tied up in tools. I have Stanley, Kobalt, a couple cheap swivel sockets I bought from Tractor Supply, and I’m most likely gonna buy the rest of my sockets and wrenches from Sears. Thanks for all the help.
Well I talked to my mechanic and he said something similar. The insturment panel cluster has 10-12 light bulbs and since they all went out at once its an eletrical issue. The car isn’t mine, I’ve driven it since spring of 2009 and put over twice what the vehicle is worth in parts alone, not to mention the $700 in labor I spent on issues I wasn’t capable of fixing myself. Since the car isn’t mine, I told the owner what the issue is and that if he wants it fixed, to do it himself.. So… No more money will be put into the car, except for a tow-truck to deliver the vehicle to its owner after it kicks the bucket.
Now that I’ve calmed down… any ideas to the orgin of my problem?
October 14, 2011 at 11:00 am in reply to: 1994 Buick Century Custom, Possible oil pump replacement. #435791Well I just took your word for it Eric. I went out to my car about an hour ago and took off the oil filler cap. I aimed a flashlight down in the hole, and all I could see was brown. Looked like burnt brownie mix all over the friggin place. I also saw a few spots underneath the valve cover looked like there was water pooled in the recesses. Is there any inexpsensive and safe way to clean the sludge out of my engine or am I S.O.L?
