As far as coolant go I go with the ratings the manual suggests and make sure I get the right kind since there are coolants specifically to cast iron blocks and aluminium blocks.

The GIAC chips is that a replacement chip for the one that came stock with the car or is it a piggyback system that basically piggybacks itself unto the cars original EFI/ECU system?

              Inverlass,

What do you call the ‘star reader’. Some cheap knockoff or the actual Mercedes diagnostics unit that they use in the official mercedes workshops etc.

Hi Eric, and first of all thanks for all those wicked and educational videos :).

Personally I would prefer a blend/mix of both etc. Ie series where it might apply and make sense, and single videos for more “simple” things if that makes sense?

                          Eric,

I use something like that as well just for “fun” really. I have it tied into my company car just to take measurements for the fun of it really and hopefully learn a thing or two.

I really like how that kind of thing just ties into a smartphone and allows you to do diagnostics on the side of the road without bringing a large scan-tool with you etc. Mine isn’t the exact model you have, but I figure all the Bluetooth OBDII plugs “more or less” does the same.

I have racket socket wrenches for that kind of work ;). Basically like a fixed socket wrech, but with racheting built in. Or whatever you kind that kind of tool you can use to loosen bolts and doesn’t entire encompass the bolt/nut.

Yes sorry, but english is like my 2nd/3rd language and my technical vocabulary is rather lacking in some areas 😛

I’m by no means a home mechanic but would consider myself more enlightened on the finer details of cars then the common man :P. But I have actually found a few workshops that don’t beat around the bush, or attempts to de-babble the car lingo when they deal with me. Back when I had my old car I actually managed to get some good discount on brand original parts since the parts were just “rusting” on their shelves anyway so rather sell to me at a discount and cut their losses as opposed to throwing it out in the bin. And he plainly told me that, that he would rather try to sell brand “new” original parts in original packing at the same price that I could get reproduction parts for, at least that way we both “won” :P.

Suffice to say I would go back to that garage when/if I get a car again of that make.
