      I tried unhooking cable and it makes no difference. rotor is getting super hot to the point it smokes.

          Your best bet is to move on the leak down test and check for cylinder leakage past the rings, valves, or head gasket. Your compression should definitely be significantly higher. Autozone sells a compression gauge for about 25 dollars made by actron and it never hurts to have one. I take one along everytime I go look at a car to buy, running or not.

              I would assume on the side of it being bad depending on cost. With the probable cost of what you have already put into it, spending $50 or less on a receiver dryer is worth it. While the system was apart did you have the receiver dryer capped or left open? If it was left open then definitely replace it.
