I’d do the inexpensive simple stuff: Air filter, fuel filter, clean MAF and throttle body, bottle of injector cleaner in the gas tank.
Neglected trans fluid and filter changes are the source of your woes. There’s no need to drop the pan, as the filter is a spin-on outside the case. The job is very easy; I’d change fluid and filter now, then do it annually thereafter. Your transmission will give you long service if you’ll give it decent fluid.

Looks to me like OEM for parts. Expensive though:

Good luck. Let us know what you did.

Forgot to include quote, but you can switch from mineral to synthetic – as long as the engine is in good mech shape. I recommend flushing the oil system prior to remove deposits and varnish. Any synthetic oil will clean deposits as you run it, and those could load up the filter and put it in bypass. Circulating unfiltered oil could cause high oil consumption; in this case change the filter and top up.

Your oil consumption is a little high for Toyota engine, but oil you’re using may have a high Noack volatility (i.e., evaporation). You might want to try a different oil:
An oil analysis could also give you some guidance on what’s going on inside your motor.

There’s no such thing as a refurbished catalytic converter. Your only choices are OEM and Aftermarket replacements. The OEM piece will fit, aftermarket should but stories abound these pieces not fitting just right. Exhaust work is difficult, and you may have difficulty disconnecting the cat from the engine header. What’s your year and model of BMW?
