Guns-I go to the range and I also reload my own ammo. I have a 1991 Ford Explorer with axles from a 1974 Bronco and 35″ tires. Thinking bout swapping the Bronco axles for fullwidth axles, D60 rear and fullwidth high pinion D44. Used to have a 1984 Ford Bronco II with an SEFI 5.0/C4/atlas 1-ton axles and 43″ tires. Kinda miss it but I have just as much fun in my explorer and dont have to haul it everywhere.

I dont really mind flat rate, never worked salary. I did work at one place that payed hourly plus commission. It was $7/hr plus 15.5% of parts and labor after the first $1500 in parts and labor, $30/hr that you worked. So if you worked 40 hours you would get 15.5% after the first $1200. 50 hour work week so base pay was just shy of $400/week, minimum wage was 5.25/hr dont know what they pay now since min wage is over 7/hr now. I job offer I had from another shop was $7/hr plus 10% of total parts and labor, but turned it down because the commute would have been over an hour 1-way.

Howdy folks, my name is Bruce. I have been an auto tech since April of 2000. My Father is a mechanic, thats how I got my start I guess, and my Grandfather was a mechanic. No formal training, pretty much all on the job training. I currently work at an independent shop with 3 other techs. I try to stay away from diagnostic type work, mainly because the guy I currently work for doesn’t understand how that kind of work goes. Sometimes that part you find that needs replaced isnt the only bad part, he doesn’t get that. I do suspension, brake, alignment, timing belt and other maintenance type work, and I do all the differential/axle work that comes in. And I usually get the engine and trans replacement jobs to. Currently have a Nissan Murano to put an engine in now. Trying to decide if the engine will come out the top or not, but with the way the windshield protrudes into the engine bay, about 2″ of bare window hanging off the bottom of the windshield frame, I dont think it would be a good idea to try it out the top.
