Quoted From dreamer2355:
1) Vibrations are usually in the drive train and are as a result form something being unbalanced as it is rotating.
Did you ever check your wheel bearings, driveshaft or U-joints?
Wheel bearings usually ‘growl’ when they start to fail but can also cause a vibration too.
2) Here is the link to the free Chilton’s online. Its very basic at best but is better than nothing.
1) Oh okay, i havent checked any of those things specifically but would the wheel bearing make that vibrating sound if i took the wheel and brakes off and just spin it really fast?
how would i go about checking the parts you mentioned individually?2) thanks!
lol ok deal
Quoted From EricTheCarGuy:
1. Suspension parts do NOT cause vibrations, they can make them worse but they are not responsible for causing vibration, things that rotate cause vibration and BECAUSE you just had the tires replace I would recommend taking them back to recheck the balance and also to see if there is a tire problem, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that you threw one of the wheel balance weights that was just installed, in fact it happens all the time and some tires are better than others so if there is a problem with one of the tires it may show up right away, it could also be an issue with the installation.
2. Bad inner tie rods have nothing to do with a PS rack leak it’s just easier to replace the entire rack if you have a leak and loose inner tie rods because a new unit would come complete with new inner tie rods and new seals to prevent leaks. I’d have to see it for myself to make a real assessment on that however.
3. I’d say a good round number would be 15-20lbft on the pan bolts but as suggested check the service manual for the correct spec.
1. man i really hope they didn’t mess anything up or put on any bad tires
2. ok, i bought the rack so ill be replacing that soon.
3. that helps i only put it down to like 10 before so i need to go tighter lolthanks!
Thanks guys, ill replace them and get a balance and see what happens

And it doesn’t make a growling sound, when turning to the max when standing still? It may be something with power steering – remember, that when moving and turning, there are some forces that try to straighten your wheels, but the power steering pump pushes the other way, so you’re able to turn – so power steering pump is under bigger load when making U-turn, than when you’re standing still.
Is it cold where you live? I had to change my p/s fluid, because last winter when it was colder than -18*C the p/s pump was whining like a supercharger for half a minute after starting the engine. Maybe your fluid is old/worn and under load it doesn’t lubricate as it should?
i haven’t noticed it make the sounds when standing still and turning, i’ll try it out and let you know.
where i live the lowest it’s gotten so far is about 30 degrees.
ill check the fluids condition, i know the level is fine because i was going to top it off recently but it was already at level. and what color should the fluid be if its bad or contaminated ect? (the power steering system takes tranny fluid)Quoted From dreamer2355:
You just may be hearing the power steering system of the vehicle if you are at full lock.
Is you belt at the correct tension and did you check your power steering fluid level?
that’s just the thing though, it starts growling maybe at an 180degree before it hits its locking position.
and yea the tensioner is good because i recently serviced the belt and checked all the components and the fluid level is good.man, i never thought about that one lol ill check it out
Quoted From Hawk2:
Is it making a noise when moving, or when standing still? If it makes a noise when moving, does it make the noise both when going forward and backwards? Information like this will help to solve the problem. When you post a question, post as much info as you can.
If it’s a kind of scratching noise, it could be the plate behind the brake rotor. If it’s bent, it can make a noise when turning.
i did post all the information possible. thats the only times its making the sounds, none of the times you are asking about.
Quoted From dreamer2355:
I would be very cautious with that 2.5 QR25DE engine. They are known for excessive oil consumption due to a incorrect piston ring break in period at the factory. Nissan also recalled 03 to 06 Sentra’s and Altima’s with that same engine due to that issue.
Are you suffering from any excessive oil burn off during oil changes?
yes! i do the routine oil change with 3k miles but it’s like on average i have to keep putting in 2qts of oil a week, its annoying
Thanks for the tips guys ill try that out and see what happens!
if something is wrong with the pulley, sometimes you might see it kind of “shaking”, if you look at the accessories from side view (not facing the belt) you will see some sort of movement in the belt. that could happen say the pulley went bad and is wobbling on the shaft. BUT dont go for that right away, your tensioner going bad can make that happen as well. so just do some diagnosis work before you just throw a bunch of money into replacing whatever “seems” to be the problem.
Ok so here is the final update about this problem. And it’s making me scratch at the head.
But here is what the guys over at Ford said.
They said that my aftermarket BBK Intake set up was the problem. They said that the filter was too long and when i would turn it would slide a bit and bang against the firewall, thus causing the knocking sound. And at start up it was due to the “shaking” of the filter cuz of start up.So im thinking of just putting a smaller filter on there so it doesnt make the sound anymore or contacting the guys where i got it from and doing a defect exchange on it. Cuz no one else has had this problem that i’ve asked that have the BBK set up.
Quoted From PartsDude:
99% of new fords recommend 5w-20 oil.. i know a guy who has gone thru 2 motors under warranty in his mustang.. i wouldnt put off gettin it in for them to look at.. and if they give ya the run around. just ask them for the phone # of the districts service manager. to complain too.. they will change there tune quickly usually.. they dont like to have complaints filed against them and there shop.. btw they circled the problem on the front… its a ford..L:D lol
hey now! i’ve heard that one plenty of times but it never gets old haha yea i know it’s a ford, but it’s my ford and i love that car still lol
yea a lot of new fords do call for the 5W-20, i double checked mine and it does call for 5W-30 Syn. and that’s what i’ve been putting in it.all jokes aside though, here is the update on what’s going on with it.
I just dropped my car off to Ford today, and I hope to hear back from them tomorrow to find out what’s going on and that it’s been fixed. Tomorrow is my birthday and i dont even have my car… A:(
but its the only time i have to drop it off.getting this problem fixed would be a nice bday gift lol 🙂
