For if some one want to get in to the business I would tell them work for a company as a fleet mechanic
The advantage is NO flat rate NO politics Just steady hourly work with overtime I put in 18 years at DHL but there is companies like FedX, UPS. caterpillar and so on where I guarantee THATS were the money is today What I see in the near future is a mom and pop shop getting most of there work form small companies and repairing their fleet vehicles
in the last few years I have seen a few do just that and are working out nicely

THe most money I have seen any technician make was AT airborne express there were some that easy pulled over 100.000 a year For a five day work week and that was 12 /15 years ago Today airborne is not around any more BUT I think you get what I am driving at
Dealerships is JUST way to stress full and just too much B/S In the last few years my family bought five new grand cherokees and I will tell you when it came for a warranty work after the first two times OF B/S
I said bag this I did and still do ALL the work needed myself WHY I was far easier for me to do a repair that to put up with all of the aggravation ( it just was not worth it)
Plus I knew it was done right

this is the kind of car were you just have to say its cost way more than its worth
with the year of that car the second engine I would have just junked it it was NOT worth the money and the labor Now if it was a 57 corvette then by all means keep it going but this Civic has seen better days:whistle:

To become a good mechanic you have to have the knack and be real good with your hands
I NEVER went to school I self taught my self working out in the field . Thats The only way to learn
                                That was back in 1962

schools never pepair you for how things really are They tell you can make a 100,000 a year But We all Know that hardly ever happens I can not tell you just how many people I steer away form going to school and became a mechanic. For me if I had to live my life over again I would never do it again. working In a cold damp shop poor lighting more money spent on tools then you can afford and my pet peeve hard time getting Good quality parts. IN my younger days It used to be fun BUT todays cars are just a pain in the ass and to me poorly
