🙁 Hey, Just wondering what the deal is with those 3 hoses… The recharge kits at Walmart only have the 1 hose and you just pop it on the air conditining thingy and pull the trigger.

Yep. I agree. Quick strutt is the way to go if you can afford it. The first struts I did, weren’t the quick strut kind, so I had to buy a spring compressor. Everything went fine until I tried to get the second strutt apart. The top Part was somehow stuck to the old strutt and I had to rip it apart to get the spring. Ended up having to buy extra parts to get it all back together. I could have saved time if I had gone the quick strutt route. The second set I got were alot quicker and easier using the quick strutts. 😉

I actually found a rebuilt trans on ebay! Who knew? It has free shipping and is half the cost of a rebuilt from the dealer! The seller has good feed back and it has ebay buyer protection. Only thing is, I’m not sure which trans I have in the truck. Is there any way to tell which transmission I have? Maybe the dealer can look it up if I give him the serial number? :woohoo:

OK, I finally broke down and got one! The snapon guy told one of the other techs I got one and now everyone wants to see it in action. I, however, took it home to use. I have a mediocre one to use at work that is doing the job just fine. I still need to find some time to use it. I’ll be removing an automatic transmission on a Ranger soon and maybe will be able to try it out then.

Sounds good! I’m thinking that once it’s out of the truck, I’ll probably take it to the mechanic school to see if they will rebuild it. Otherwise I’ll have to find a local junkyard near here and maybe get lucky finding a good one.

Wow! That’s cheap! I’ll keep an eye out for one here in MN. Maybe I’ll get lucky!

OK thanks. I was looking for a cheap fix. Not sure if the junkyard transmissions are any good and couldn’t afford a rebuilt one from Ford. It’s for a Ford Ranger 4.0. With 4 wheel drive. I don’t think I’ll be able to get it done myself. I’ll have to call the school to see what they think. maybe end up going to a junkyard and hope I get a good one.
