This is just nuts. The dealership did find and replace the cars engine…with one that had 4K more miles on it apparently. The dealership never called to tell them their car was ready. They found out by calling in themselves that the car has been ready for over a week, but no one at the dealer had the time to call them. Meanwhile, the rental car the dealer gave them is weeks past the temp tag expire date now.
So they picked up their car 2 days ago. Today, while driving to a clients location downtown, the car self destructed with heavy smoke and oil all over the road.
I totally called it…lol! Bet it was the same incompetent technician that messed up the oil change that worked on their car again that now cause a second engine to blow up.
To give an update, the dealership confirmed that the car has a seized engine. They claim they will take responsibility for it, however they are “still diagnosing what caused the failure”. It has been 6 days….no word. My folks call in, person there has no record of their car in their Service Dept.
Hey Erik.. Hope things are going well for you. Having fun with the Fairmont I hope. That’s a sweet project!
Yesterday morning before leaving for work….when I started up, my 07 Dodge Caliber, it suddenly revved up to its max 4000RPM and stayed there. Took me a good several seconds to realize something was wrong and to shut of the engine……only to realize that the WeatherTech molded mat I just reinstalled after cleaning them, was mashing the gas pedal to the floor…..DUH!
My question, does such a high rev for several seconds at a cold(20F) startup …could it have damaged anything?
I noticed something on a lot of older Audi’s and Volvo’s…..HEADLIGHT WIPERs!
Are they really so useful…..or just a gimmick?
I have been hearing a fairly loud grinding noise when I turn and accelerate with my 2007 Dodge Caliber.. Only happens when is quite cold out…20(f) or below. Doesn’t do it at all when its warmer out.
I did some searching online…found quite a few forums of owners of various Dodge/Chrysler brand vehicles reporting this same issue. I did have a local shop look at the CV Axle joints and such during oil change..they report everything looks fine.
Ever heard of this kind of odd issue?
PS: Thanks for all the things u do. Wish there were more mechanic like u around the world.
Does excessive idling a vehicle for long periods of time affect the Oil change timeframe? Or is only mileage driven the main factor?
Example: A vehicle with conventional oil only driven about 12 miles a day, 5 days a week, but also sits idle for around 6hrs each of those days…
PS: Thank you for all your videos and hard work that you do.
Why is it that many repair shops(even some well known chain shops), when you have work done to your vehicle, that none of it shows up on CarFox or other reporting services? I have a buddy of mine that is selling a car and he just dealt with a buyer who claimed that since the maintenance was not on CarFox…..it was not done by a reputable and licensed mechanic who would have been required to report any maintenance done to a vehicle.
You would want this info to show up on these reporting sites for best re-sale ability etc wouldn’t u? Also, one of the key things people searching for a used car go by these days right? Is there a better online source than CarFox for detailed history and info on a used vehicle?
