The K11 is a timing chain engine and there’s a little more involved in stripping it down than those with a belt, but its not a terribly difficult job for the confident DIYer.

I’d definately be having it machined if its been overheated for a while though, they are a soft head on those. Budget a weekend if you wanna tackle it, just to be on the safe side.

How do you find working in yellow tinted glasses compared to with plain old eyeballs? ๐Ÿ˜€

Whats your favourate car you’ve owned and why? (not really technical related, does it count?)
Eric,
at 6:38 in the video, is the rear lower control arm bushing worn/torn? Or does it seem so just because the arm is unloaded?
My thoughts too when I saw it. I’d be interested to hear of any nifty ideas on changing these compliance bushings if anyone has any to put forward. I had a tool for it years ago and it was really expensive, but never got it back from a borrower. The same design of bushing is in the Accords and Civics too (possibly a different size, Never seen an Element before. :))

Whenever I have some trouble with them, I like to remove them and leave it sitting with some penetrating oil in it for a little while, then dry it and refit to see if it helped. Sometimes they benefit from a few light taps with a soft hammer or something similar to help unstick them.

My money would be on wrench turners suggestion of reversed polarity. The fact that the wipers were operating while not turned on suggests this and its probable that there are some burned wires in there somewhere. I’d start by inspecting all the electrics under the dash for any damage to the wiring, the smell should help to guide you too and if you are lucky then you might get away with replacing a small section of wire.
I once had a similar problem with a little German corsa that I bought for โ‚ฌ100 from someone who said the engine was dead and it turned out he did exactly the above, installed the battery backwards. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yeah as said above, it seems you are confusing 2 separate parts. What are your symptoms?

I’ve had pre marked belts in the past but I’m not a big fan of them. I prefer to check the timing marks and do things that way just for my own peace of mind, since a small mistake on the belt could really mess you around later on. I did a punto belt that had its own markings on it once and they were so far out it was ridiculous. Luckily its non interference and I timed it off the marks anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚
