Also here are some ASP based forums with a lot of the functionality that the members are speaking of. They should be compatible to switch over to quite easily.

Here is the deal on Snap-On/Mac versus Craftsman/Kobalt/Husky/etc.

I have a mostly Craftsman collection, with a starter Snap-On set I got from school. I use my Craftsman daily and they all hold up under long hours of wrenching and re-wrenching.

Snap-On will hold up to everything, including tool abuse. If you plan on doing all the no-no things with your tools, these are a must. Such things include:

        – Bashing the handle of your ratchet with a driller hammer to break nuts and bolts.
        – Adding a ridiculously long steel pipe to your ratchet hammer to create more leverage while trying to get the nuts and bolts the hammer didn’t get off, off.
        – Using your screwdrivers as pry-bars and chisels.
        – Making crude leverage bars out of deep sockets and extenstions.
        – Stacking 21 different extensions on your ratched to get that hard to reach bolt.

However, if you invest in the proper tools and a good impact gun, and use your Craftsman and etc. tools as intended, they will last forever as well.

            Quoted From TexasCoder:

Thank you for the offer, but right now I have no budget for toys. C;(

But, if I did, I would not hesitate to drive up North with a trailer and bring that baby home. Do you have any photos of your 99? I love those body styles also, something about the shape just gives it a better stance than the gen 4 and up.

This link is to my project log for the car, which includes pictures.

Plenty of them still kicking, but DSMers usually stay DSMers for life, so they are never seen for sale. I just happen to know of a 91 in that color scheme for sale right now, real clean. It’s in Mass. if you are interested.

If you don’t have the displacement to back your car up, you need forced induction. I still am a believer in no replacement with displacement, but as of recently, it seems that the technology employed by the car manufacturers in smaller displacement engines with turbo or twin turbocharger applications are catching up rapidly. I guess there is a point where the displacement line and the efficiency of technology line cross on that bar chart.

                    Quoted From EricTheCarGuy:

Don’t, learning the ‘ropes’ of being an automotive technician is one thing, starting an automotive business is quite another. You could get yourself into a situation that could easily bankrupt you and make things even worse. I strongly suggest you work in the field for at LEAST 5 years before thinking about starting your own shop just so that you can get a handle on doing automotive work and dealing with automotive customers. You might consider talking to the school you went to to see if you can work something out with them to get your certification, this should be your first priority otherwise you won’t be able to get a deceint job working on cars to even get your feet wet. I cover a lot of this kind of thing on ETCG1, if your not familiar with that channel you might want to check it out as it is geared more toward the ‘business’ of auto repair instead of the practice, there is a link at the bottom of this page.

                    Good luck.

I appreciate the response. The problem is, I did go to the school, which required me to write a letter with an explanation regarding this. Then they never got back to me or returned my calls. Unfortunately, unless a place gave me 60+ hours a week at 10.00/hour, I would never be able to afford my normal bills, which include a roof for my son’s head and feeding him, etc. Since I don’t have a shop I can use for side work, that rules out that option other than in the summer.

I guess my real question is, how would one look for a small shop to rent for personal repair and side jobs, not a full blown business. I check Craigslist daily for them, but they all want money that amounts to more than my rent (which is $775.00) or basically is full commercial rent, which means we are talking $3500.00 a month.
