You can try to put a drop or two of oil in the cylinder and then test the compression to rule out rings.

Does the gauge just drop to 0 or does the engine stall and die?

It drops to 0 and the engine looses power but the rpms jump back up to normal idle in a about 1 second so it sometimes doesn’t die. It’s as if the engine is trying to catch itself back up when the rpms dI wish the clutch kit I had to buy omly cost $120.00, that’s not bad at all.
