No problem, you are replacing the BJ so if the press damages the joint it wont matter. The steel cage around the ball can take a lot of abuse so I don’t think you need to worry about not getting it out.

Any updates? Looks like a very solid build. Good work on the rust prevention/ restoration. How do you like the KW coils?

Usually you will be supplied with different sized sleeves. to push a joint out you need to use the smaller sleeve to apply pressure directly to the ball joint body. On the opposite side you must use a sleeve that is larger than the ball joint so it can be pushed through. I have had cases where the smallest sleeve is too large for the ball joint and have pushed a few ball joints out by pressing on the stud, just be very careful and make sure everything is lined up straight.

worse case if the metal sleeve in the bushing does not come out you could get a hacksaw or reciprocating saw and cut the sleeve then give it some good hits with a hammer and punch.

Have not been able to work on the car much recently, been too busy with a few other projects. I am 100% sure it is the rear differential however. It may be a pinion bearing going out on me, so I have my spare rear differential that I’m going to adjust the backlash and bearing preloads correctly then throw it in when I get the time. Heres the FSM fluids page

Ah, I see. Maybe I’ll try some lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer in there. I think last time I was at Autozone there was a lucas oil product for differentials. I seem to have good luck with their products.

Yup it has a Viscous coupled LSD in the rear, and let me tell you it is LOUD when the spider gears start moving from slippage. Ill check the fluid when I get home today IIRC it is 75W90 hypoid gear oil, nothing special according to the FSM. What do you mean by cookbook I’m not familiar with the saying?

The guys at the local Autozone know me by my name as much as I am in there. I do repairs for friends and neighbors all the time. I find the rates that some shops charge are outrageous. Midas wanted 1300 clams to install new shocks and a fuel filter on my girlfriends car(07 cobalt). I bought all the parts for $300 and it took me 3 hours to do everything. The only time I would go to a shop is it is to the dealership for warranty work. I can see the reasons why shops charge more (insurance + labor) but imo it isnt worth it for me as I can do all the work I need to my car or my friends’ cars.

Id say this issue is with your alternator, my friends 350z has this same issue and it is his alternator. Probably the bearings in it are going out or the draw on it is so large that the belt is slipping like Grg88 said.
