so what should i do if the car comes in with a check engine and turns off on its own but wen the check engine light is on the car tries to shut and sometimes it does then out of nowhere the check engine light shut off on its own and the car acts normal but every single time we take it to the smog the ignition timing is at 15 degrees wen they say it suppose to be at 10 degrees the car is a 1.8L

im trying for it to pass smog but the ignition timing is the only thing that keeps failing

i did it but the distrubiator is not adjustable is it better to replace the ecu since the check engine comes on and off and the codes is i think 25 or 52
