Sorry should have stated no abs light, no traction control light and no check engine light comes on. Also happens when auto traction control is switched off. The noise is similar to the ABS engaging but only on one wheel car feels like it is dragging one tire.

I had similar problem . Lift the car and check for drift on both front wheels. Mine turned out to be a bad Rack one wheel was moving to the turn position faster then the other but only under load . While reversing you might be dragging a wheel that has not reached the same position as the other. Problem was not discovered on alignment rack because wheels were static.
Good luck and check one wheel at a time. If you can turn it (left or right not round and round) Then Eric is right check the rack.

I am very happy to report that The Pontiac Montana is up and running the roads again like a champ. Purrs like a kitten. No more noises Don’t remember if Eric covered it in his “Cars that sit video” but if you let your car sit for a while check the brakes and do a thorough inspection of the vehicle. I not only found 2 frozen calipers but a hornets nest so be careful.

Due to the state of the engine I am going to suggest that you find a really cheap socket and Carefully and evenly”round” grind the sides till it fits over the lug nut. Then use the modified tool to remove the nuts. Then go out and buy longer solid not capped lug nuts if you want to keep those rims . Good luck

I have been a loyal American car owner for most of my life. Dodge, Plymouth ,Ford and General motors. I myself have always maintained my vehicles with regular oil changes ,engine fluids and scheduled maintenance covered in the owners manuals. Wherever I can I try to do the service my self to try to save some money . All cars require some sort of care and I think the problem is that people don’t realize what a huge investment a car is. It is usually the second most expensive item a person owns or buys next to their home. I am not saying that any brand of car is better than any other but there are many better car owners out there . I have a great relationship with my mechanic and I go to him when I can’t solve the problem or need to change something I can’t do in my driveway. This being said I can only repeat what my grandfather and my father always said to me “The most important part of a car is the Nut that holds the steering wheel”. Be safe Have fun and Stay Dirty. B)

I can’t tell you how cool it is to get a response from you. I will definitely be at at 2016 meet up . Been watching your videos for about a year. On a more serious note: EVERY car manufacturer should produce a product that can be serviced without using a step ladder, a trained monkey and slew of special tools that you will only use once. If I ever met a guy That came up to me and said “Nice Montana I was an engineer on that project” I might just have a fit right in front of the guy. We are talking about full Jersey screaming , cursing and foaming at the mouth! 😆

😳 I did not install the gaskets upside down . But in my haste to put the upper plenum on I mangled the gaskets(Brand new). Replacement is only six dollars so not too bad. Mangled around bolt holes so I think I’m using to much torque. Any body know the torque specs? Going to get new seals ,wish me luck 😳

I found the trouble .The guy holding the wrench. I installed the upper air intake gaskets upside down duh!! .They then acted like a reed in a woodwind instrument and created that lovely sound. Taking top off tomorrow and fixing gaskets. wish me luck Epic face palm

This video is my favorite every time I take a break from working on my car. Because sitting right behind you is the exact model of my current frustration. I am the proud/poor owner of a 2002 Pontiac Montana. I have replaced the head gaskets, lower intake and upper gaskets. I have also replaced the evaporator coil and expansion valve. I have had the whole car apart this month and when I got it running again the exhaust is loose and making a loud whistling noise. So here I go again taking all apart to tighten the exhaust . The car is in excellent condition except for the motor . Very little rust ,no dents and everything works except the A/C because the evaporator coil failed. During head gasket work I was forced to replace 6 broken exhaust studs but luckily I did not hit a water jacket. Also replaced all A/C O rings and seals and exhaust gaskets. Why did GM make this car/truck so hard to work on?
