I hooked the vacuum gage up to see if there’s any plugged exhaust or something of that nature. At idle while its warm the gage reads 14-15 inches in murcery. I believe the norm is supposed to be 17-21. The gage says late ignition timing but could this also mean a possible leak? Or it’s a clogged catalytic converter
I’d have to check for clogged catalytic converter and its condition. compression tested as expected. the scanner isnt supposed to be here till the 19th so ill keep poking around with a multi meter till i get some where. i’ll keep you all posted
More so on a humid day it gets ugly. I’m not very sure on what component since its all pretty much new but I have had some faulty parts in the past. Any ideas on how to check the the whole ignition system?
i’ll connect the scan tool when i get it in the mail its still on the way and i cant wait till it gets here! could ignition timing cause this issue? rewason i asked is because weather effects the way it runs and i hooked a timing light up to it and something seemed off. on cylinder 1 itll be fine at idle but once in a while the light would blink and then you raise the rpms and at about 1500-2000 the light stops. and the same goes for cylinders 2 and 4. cylinder 3 seemed to be doing great, it was steady and no other things like the other cylinders. is this normal or am i on to something?
I did the 3 clicks and it didn’t do anything. Either the bulb is burnt out or it just isn’t capable of storing dtcs. I did some research on the “renix” system ill include the link about it but it was advanced for its time but it doesn’t say if it stores dtcs. I’ll put in a new bulb and try it again just to make sure. I’ll also test the temp sensors more thoroughly to see what’s up
I checked the ect and in this wrangler there’s 2 but I don’t know which one does what. I think the one on the end of the engine is the one for the gage and the one on the intake manifold is for the ecu. I used his chart to see what was normal. It was from a 1987 jeep factory repair Manuel I found online. The readings I got from the sensor on the manifold was some where around 450 ohms or according to the chart 160 but the gage on the dash said its 210. I don’t know what temp it’s supposed to run at can anyone tell me what spec temp it’s supposed to be? Thank you all for you input!!!
Attachments:Ill be able to check the compression and the temp sensor tomorrow. I wasn’t able to pull codes it doesn’t have a check engine light despite the fact it has the old school single port fuel injection or tbi renix system. I did manage to track down a scanner for it but I don’t have it yet its being shipped.
How high is your idle?
It’s a newish engine rebuilt by napa over 10 years ago so the rest has a ton of miles on its been a daily driver since day one. Would a tps that’s out of adjustment cause it to run rich?
I haven’t had to to look at over the few days but I finally got around to tinkering on it. But to answer and keep you guys posted the i tested the map sensor and its good. The injector doesn’t leak I put in like 3 before I got it right, and I haven’t checked the temp sensors (there’s 2 for some reason). Is there a way I can check the o2 sensor?
unfortunately its old enough to not have a check engine light dispute its fuel injected. Its got a “emissions maintenance” light. I’m currently trying to track down a old snap on mt 2500 scanner so i can figure out whats wrong with it. but with a rich condition can that contaminate the oil with gas?
What was the first year these things where made? i really am stepping back in time. Its going to be primarily used on a 1990 wrangler with the old school tbi single port injection. It doesn’t have a check engine light (witch really sucks) and its a pain to figure out whats wrong with out at least a scanner of some kind. i made contact with a gentleman that has one in the case with the original manuals. some connectors not sure how many is all there. Not sure either on what carts come with either. He’s only asking $100 and were meeting up Wednesday to make a deal. I can not wait!
Is it similar to oxy/ acetylene?
ive never hear of map and oxy before. but any heat is best
well put didn’t think about cv joint
