Yes, wheel locks used to REALLY piss me off when I was a tech! Such a waste of time.

Yes it is safe to use, as long as it’s the grade your vehicle calls for it is safe to use. It’s just specially formulated for higher mileage engines.

I don’t have any of my tools themselves, but here’s my box and work area. Two engines torn down at once. One is the Silverado on my hoist I took apart today and the cylinder head laying down on the bench, and all the other parts on the left side of my tool box are from a 2010 Equinox.

Sounds like an IAC issue to me too, may have to replace it to try it and do a proper idle learn after you replace it. I can post steps on how to do so if you decide to change it. Like college man said too, check for vacuum leaks. Those Northstars are famous for the boot to crack between the throttle body and intake manifold. When it’s idling spray some brake clean in that area to see if the engine stalls or changes in idle. Is the SES light on? May be a good idea to have it scanned even if it’s not on to see if there’s a P0171 in it for fuel trim lean, this would also indicate a vacuum leak. A lot of times fuel trim codes will set and not throw the SES light on unless the fuel trim values are WAY out of whack.

Did you change the rotors? I’ve run into this before if you just change pads only without replacing or machining the rotors. The pads need a fresh surface to break into for good pedal feel.

                        Hey everyone,

My name is Shaun, I’m 26 years old and have been with a GM dealer since I was 18 and had my certification when I was 21. Specialized in transmissions and really enjoyed doing internal engine and driveline work as well. Recently made a career change, actually gave my notice to the dealership last week and only have a little over a week left until I start my new venture into the recreation side of the industry. A combination of a lot of things influenced the desicison. A lot of it had to do with GM warranty cutting times way down, and a lot more warranty work vs customer pay work ect. And a lot of it had to do with the newer technology that’s all coming out. I love twisting wrenches, swinging hammers, troubleshooting electrical and everything. But not having to connect a laptop to almost every car you touch and do endless programming and troubleshooting to multiple modules to even try and figure out what’s going on. I would have got into IT if I wanted to do that lol!

Figured I’d try something new while I’m young and hopefully advance further in this industry. If I don’t like it, I can always venture back into the automotive world, and this time find a place that’s more geared to the powertrain side of things.

Currently going to work for a huge recreation business that sells ATV’s, UTV’s, side by sides, snowmobiles, boats, seadoos, etc. Going to start in the parts side of things and hopefully work my way up to sales and maybe even management in the future.

In 2008 I had my truck, plus my new 08 Can-Am Outlander (ATV) for $180/month, both full coverage including collision on both. Got a DUI in June 2008, in Jan 2009 I was quoted $570/month just for my truck, of course I cancelled it since I didn’t have a licence. Now I’m paying $106/month for my truck (they don’t know what’s under the hood of my truck, used to be a 4.3L V6), basic covereage, will put the ATV on it once the spring comes and I can drive it.

If you’re working in the trade, stay hourly as long as you can. I stayed hourly until I got my certification then went flat rate.
