Very good point.
Very good point.
I work for a small family owned company. There is no real job description except what is asked of me at the time. For the most part we are self policed. In this environment I want my company to win and make money. They treat me good and it is gainful employment. I get to be a piece of the bigger picture. To contribute to the overall success I do try to do all I can more than what is asked of me. As long as it does not interfere with the job I have on the go at the time.
That is the best I can do to express how I think like a boss in a small paragraph.
I agree with Eric. If we want to get the most out of our jobs as employees we do need to think like a boss.

PS to my above comment. Could we have a dissection video on a standard transmission too at some time?

I really enjoyed these videos. On one hand I appreciate the complexity of an automatic transmission. On the other hand I think these did give me the gist of how they work. I am looking forward to the torque converter video especially how they lock up at the right time.
I like the mention of the differential and the possibility of a video on one at some time. I can appreciate that can be a rich topic too. With that in mind I have hope that a video can be made so the mention of the various locking ones can be mentioned and even cover which ones are good and not so good. I hope to one day have lots of extra change in my pocket and rig up a four wheel drive with some sort of locking diffs in both axles. At this point I still don’t know what kind(s) I would want to have installed.
In summary it looks like there are lots of automobile topics out out there to get to have future videos on.

Thank you Eric. I guess spirited driving is burnouts, scratching upon takeoff, and cornering too hard? The point about making sure that the specific tire and car work together well is new to me. That has never occurred to me before. I will use this information soon I hope for hopefully before August we will be getting a new set.
Up to now we have been running an all weather tire tread (as opposed to all season tread) all year. Now we will run all seasons in summer and winter tires in winter. This should ensure we get much more tread wear on each set than just running one set year round.

With you there.

Would the correct way of phrasing my original question be “How do I perform a mechanical inspection”?
Would the correct way of phrasing my original question be “How do I perform a mechanical inspection”?
Thank you for your replies.
At this point I have checked tire pressure and I know I need to replace at least one bearing. At this point what would be a good check list for things to inspect in addition to ball joints, tie rods etc.. Since it is a front wheel drive I am inquisitive about both ends.
Where I am coming from is I am by no means a mechanic and am learning as I go. I am grateful for all the advice I can get my hands on and will undertake this with caution with a touch of nervousness. Therefore thanks again for feedback.
Mr. Eric The Car Guy if you happen to read this can I make a request for a video on this topic or at least for a referral if there’s already a n existing video?
