well im probly gonna get proven wrong but i replied to her email the day she sent it (april 26th) and still haven’t gotten any reply from them so i believe that it is probably just an empty threat, considering she wouldn’t have much of a case i think it’d be the best interest to just leave me the hell alone

Quoted From Rick:

I think you need to be careful about this. You don’t want to say “you get what you pay for” because that would sound like you are less than professional. I don’t know your situation, but even if you’re working under a shade tree at home you can have high standards. What I think really happened here is this car came in with a very bad misfire. The correct diagnosis was that it was badly out of time. The car was poorly maintained and the owner, strapped for cash, let maintenance and the other bad symptoms slide so that it did further damage to the vehicle. The valve was bent when it came in, the head gasket was bad when it came in, but she had no way to know that because the timing was masking the symptoms of these other problems. She recommended a timing belt and did that job correctly, but when finished, the other problems became apparent and now this customer that is strapped for cash, that she tried to help out by doing this job at below-market rates is trying to make her pay for all of the customers prior neglect of the vehicle.

rick you hit the nail on the head, i do have high standards on what i do, and dreamer you always come to the rescue =) thanks guys i was freaking out so much that i didn’t know what to do also i checked the antifreeze and it was mixed with oil that was the big indicator of the blown head gasket.

the background story is she brought the 2003 mitsubishi eclipse 3.0 6 cyl to me to change the timing belt and water pump. i found about 12 other major problems with it before i even started working on the car. im being blamed for the head gasket being blown the valves being bent and the timing belt not working correctly even though i followed instructions on it to the T. so im being footed with a 2600$ bill and im pretty sure she is gonna take me to small claims court which is why i didn’t say what i really wanted to which was “you can take that receipt and shove it up your ass” lol she asked me for a receipt 2 months ago right? she avoided me for 2 months and then i got an email saying that if i don’t contact her making arrangements to pay her back i’m being taken to court (keep in mind she didn’t pay me and avoided me for like 2 months)

it was running (although i don’t know how the hell it was running) i was working with 2 of my friends that saw all this stuff wrong with it and the lady didn’t care to tell me about any of this, i documented everything that i found wrong with the car that she did not inform me of, i have documentation of it all so i have that part its just gonna rest on the judge’s decision on this one, also documented is the text saying “i can’t afford a top dollar mechanic so i was hoping that you could do this”

never done a head gasket personally but if memory serves it shouldn’t be as complicated as it sounds. however there is a lot of taking apart the engine that is in order so have like a day off to do this i would suggest.

well if there is no heat, 9 times out of 10 it’s gonna be a heater core(in my experiences). as for the clicking noise i’m not entirely sure, if you could elaborate a bit more, either me or someone else can help ya out ^^

im replacing them because (mind you i don’t know HOW THE HELL he managed to do this) there are cracks and holes in the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold is on it’s last leg so to speak lol it would probably disintegrate if i tapped it with a rubber mallet

i’m gonna see what other info i can find about this car before i dive in head first =P

well glad yard dog and eric did not insult me very much, i do have a basic understanding of most of the systems in the cars, i just wanted to know whether or not there is anyhting i could be blind sighted by working on a VW rather than say working on a GM or Honda

as for what jobs i am changing the transmission fluid and filter, changing the oil and filter, changing the fuel filter, replacing the exhaust manifold and intake manifold as well as the alternator and headlight bulbs

just to be clear, i DO have knowledge about these systems i just never have worked on VW before and just wanted to know if there are any punches that are going to be pulled on me lol

thanks for those who gave good advice =3

Quoted From yarddog1950:

http://blog.al.com/engine-block/2009/03/72%20engine.jpg

Sarah, Here’s a pic of a Chevy 307. Note the rusty ram’s horn exhaust manifold and it sits directly under the the red valve cover. The Olds V8 looks similar, but everything is more massive including the cylinder head, so the Olds exhaust manifold sits about an inch and half from the valve cover.
I think your engine must be an Olds 307.
You don’t need to post pics of your motor and long as you’re sure it’s not a Chevy small block.
You can look for videos on Google for “Oldsmobile V8 timing chain”. The size of the engine doesn’t matter as long as it’s Olds. There’s one about an Olds 455 that shows you what the chain looks like with the cover off.

0.0 wow i gotta say that looks almost exact just my valve covers and engine tops isn’t orange lol

i have no problem posting pics of my car and engine =P
