That markup doesn’t sound too far off. A normal mark up at the garages I’ve worked for is double the cost. Then the shops labor rate per hour for the labor charge.

On the back of the engine is an rear engine cover. You can’t see it without removing the transmission and tourque plate. That, or the rear seal could be leaking. Search google for 5.3l, 6.0l gm rear engine cover. You should see pictures of it, that is a common leak source. There is also a porosity issue with the rear engine cover on some years.

I have found that Groupon offers a discount coupon for Valvoline. I get about 15 bucks off with the groupon. I buy it before I go then show it to them on my phone

If a 44 is a lean condition you could have unaccounted for air entering the system. Air is entering the system from someplace other than the the normal path. Could be a vacuum hose, could be an intake gasket or some other source.I would listen for a vacuum leak. You can also have the engine smoke tested. I am assuming that gmule has access to the codes. I do not. This is just general advice for a lean condition code. A smoke test pushes smoke into the intake system and the smoke will blow from where the leak is.

It is possible that the rear drum brakes are not adjusted correctly. If they are too loose the shoe will need to travel too far before making contact with the drum.

Bleeding issues will usually be a spongy pedal but can also cause excessive pedal travel. If the Master cylinder fluid level got too low during bleeding you may need to do a bench bleed.

Just to make sure, some 5.3l engines have an issue when starting up from a cold soak. They will tap for a while then within a few minutes the tapping will stop. This is a known issue with the 5.3l. If this is what you have, it doesn’t require repair and doesn’t harm the engine. Let me know if this sounds like what you have and i can explain more.

Looks to me like you won’t have water leaks for a while. For a $500 car it was a good enough job. You aren’t taking it to car shows. As far as the color, some cars are just meant to be multicolor. It was fun watching you make that work.

It’s pretty easy to make a smoke tester. Search you-tube and you will find several ways to make one. I found that it works very well and is very easy to diagnose vacuum leaks.

Hemi cuda with a shaker hood. Might have been a 440 six PAC My memory Is a little fuzzy. The fastest I have ever been was in one of these. I was a back seat passenger and I remember the guy pegging the speedometer. I think the mopars were the fastest as a only stock car.

If you live in the US, I would think most auto parts stores would stock struts for your car. At most, they would get them from the warehouse. I live in a larger city so I am used to having the parts I need on the shelf. Some smaller towns may need to order the parts. Monroe is a typical auto part store brand. They have been ok for me.
