The discoloration is completely normal. The rear head on your car recieves fresh air from the intake tube, the front head recieves blow by via the PCV valve causing the discoloration. Post up an audio/video clip so we can better help you.

Its a Honda tensioner with a threaded bar inside the casing with a spring and oil in it.Would a loose belt cause the distributor to rattle?[/quote]

I have used picks to carefully lift up on the cd changer and remove the cd’s. Its a longshot and may need to be disassembled by an audio shop to remove em.

I would say your belt is definately too loose. What kind of auto tensioner does it have? If its hydraulic then take it out and try to compress it by pushing down on a hard surface. It shouldnt budge.
The noise doesnt seem to correspond with the belt flapping but its a good place to start from here.

90% of all the problems on the newer 5 speed and 6 speed trannies are torque converter related from what I have seen. If you can do the swap and have the cash then go for it!

It looks like there is a honda TSB for the p1298 issue, it states to replace the ELD. (electronic load detector) With that fault present I have read of other folks having their car go into limp mode which can cause driveability issues if you dont know whats happening.

If it happened right after the tbelt replacement then there is a good chance either the main timing belt or the balance shaft belt may be loose. Any way you have get an audio clip?
