On the topic of the shudder under hard acceleration, have you thought to check the integrity of your motor mounts? It’s possible that the torque from the engine movement could cause some vibration or related issue, but only when the engine twists with enough force.

Yep, I’ve had good luck with Rust-Oleum. Had some rusty wheels a while back on my Civic. First I cleaned the wheels with a stiff wire brush to knock off the majority of the rust, and then I applied primer and matte black paint. It’s lasted at least 6 or 7 years now.

May I suggest that you don’t do this while the wheels are still mounted to the vehicle, if you’re planning on repainting the whole wheel or large portions of it. I put the wheel and tire flat on the garage floor to dry, to ensure that the paint didn’t run to one edge of the wheel and create streaks as it dried. Plus, it ensured that the wheel was still in balance (I know paint doesn’t weigh very much, but still…)

One of my favorite videos to date! I actually had to become a Premium Member because the anticipation for Part 2 was killing me. 😉

My mom used to have a 2000 Silhouette with the same engine. So glad she got rid of it when she did – that does not look like an easy (or cheap, in terms of labor cost) engine to work on!

For those who haven’t yet seen Part 2, it’s well worth the wait. My favorite Eric quote from the video:

“By some miracle, that happens to be together correctly. And I say ‘by some miracle,’ because I don’t really feel like I was an active participant.”

Because I’ve totally felt that feeling before.

I ended up taking the car in for service a couple weeks ago and had the technician test drive the car.

To give some more information, the problem happens pretty much in any gear or any speed, and I can verify that the clutch is in great shape.
