Since I see the views increasing on this post I thought I would give a brief update after a couple days of running it following the reattachment of the hose from the vapor canister to the air box. Seems as though the code has not come up yet. This could have been just an issue with the air box not being linked up. Will keep an eye on it for another 5 days and keep ya’ll informed.

The plugs have but the boots have not been. I will also replace the boots to ensure they are not cracked.

I supposed I can check the fuel pressure. I will do that after I go thru the filters and freshen those up. I think it is time the car got those replaced after 130 000 miles.

Bellis….
I think I will use some B12 Berryman’s after going through and cleaning the throttle body, filters and checking leaks. I would be surprised if there was a vacuum leak.
There is no check engine light on. I will go through the above steps and this should help.
Thanks

This afternoon I was putting the new fuel cap on and decided to browse under the hood for anything I might see out of the ordinary in relation to the Vapor Canister. Much to my surprise I found an air hose routing from what appears to be a valve/diaphragm off the top of the Vapor Canister.
I found a hole in the air box where the air filter is housed and reattached the hose from the top of the Vapor Canister to the air box. It appeared that hose was aimed up to the hole and belongs there. With the new fuel cap and hose properly placed I will see if I pull a code in the next couple days. I feel like the CEL will pop the same code anyway, because I think I left the hose off of the air box after replacing the starter a couple days ago. I still got the P0440 code prior to the starter ever going out. I may still go pick up that Canister and see if I get the code afterward.
Wish me luck, guys!

I don’t think the heater core would be the culprit because I have no fog in the cabin. I have no greasy film forming on the windshield. In my initial post I mentioned what I am finding is a scent of antifreeze followed by a brief puff of steam/smoke from under the hood. I think my problem is caused by a pinhole somewhere in a hose in the cooling system.
I think the hoses under the hood (upper, lower, bypass) hoses can be to blame. I will have an idea once I hook up a radiator pressure tester. Thanks Doc for the idea…I just don’t know if I am dealing with Heater Core issues at this point.

Your info is appreciated!!! What I will do is get a pressure tester and pump it up to operating pressure and see what I find. I have a funny suspicion that the leak can be around the heater hose area. Something is just telling me to pay extra attention there.
Any other info you guys have is very much appreciated. I just have to get down to the parts place and rent that tester and let you guys know what I find out.

Ill double check, but I think it is four wires. So all I would do is attach jumpers to each wire – then jump them together (on the ECM end) and the light should go out?
