hi,
1) MAF sensor – great idea! Will look into doing that.
2) Air filter is only 1000 miles old and will never get to be more than 10,000 miles old, which is the service interval on the vehicle, but thanks for the thought.

hey mate.
Excess fuel, yes. That could be as a result of boost loss though as the ECU will be fuelling as though it’s getting (for sake of argument) 0.8 bar but the engine is only getting 0.4 bar.
Does that make sense?

Check the tell tale light on the dash is functioning. Heard of Ford interlocking that to the alt somehow so the alt won’t function if it has failed.

OK, so it’s not entirely car related, but it should make any drilling out jobs a lot easier I think 🙂

Attachments:Hi,
The rebuild bill was not justified as he can’t do the work himself and TBH I doubt I would have the time or ability to. The resolution to this was that the engine is being swapped out for one from a breakers yard.
It seems to me though that the more modern cars get, the worse things like this are to repair.
Cheers

They may not have greased the caliper and the BACK of the pad which can cause noise – use Copper grease or other approved “anti-squeal” compound

possibly a loose earth on the engine block – I had this happen and it takes 2 seconds to eliminate (jumper cable from battery -ve to metal on the engine itself)
Possibly if it’s an auto (i assume it is) there could be a safety switch to stop you from starting it in gear that’s giving problems
What model is it and a few more details would help more knowledgeable folk assist you

Seen a chinese turbo once – was a properly shocking piece of equipment. If you value your engine, then stick the extra cash to it and get a good reman or if you can stretch to it, a new one!
