When it’s cold out the hoses will tend to shrink and maybe open a crack in the hose a little larger. I agree using the cigarette/cigar method to find a leak is a bit safer than the carb spray around the engine. If you do use the carb spray, please wait until the engine is cold and don’t attempt on a hot engine and use a fire extinguisher.
