I am currently having a simiar problem with my old toyota vios. I dont really have the time to get it checked atm since the car is at my moms house. What did you do to fix the problem? hoping to hear a reply 😀

Replaced the thermostat and radiator cap. I also had a small crack in my coolant overflow which I replaced.

As far as the heat it is probably the heater core. I haven’t had a chance to attempt a flush of the heater core yet but will this weekend to see if I can get the heat flowing. However this next week it is supposed to be in the 60s here 😉

Alright last week I topped of the coolant and installed a new radiator cap. I let the car idle and I noticed some bubbles in the overflow and found a small crack near the hose going in to the overflow. So I ran to the local scrap yard and got a new over flow and installed that. I let the car run for about 20 minutes while I had my code scanner connected and monitoring the temp. It got up to about 175F. With the laser thermometer all the hoses we getting up to temp as well. I started to idle the car at about 2100 RPM and held it there for a few minutes I got the car up to 212F per the code scanner. I got out and touched the upper radiator hose and it was very hot to the touch so it appears all is working great now, except for the heat in the car. So I guess in the next few days I will be trying to flush the heater core and if nothing else not worry about it until it warms up. The temperature gauge still happily sits low, but talking to a friend of mine who has a 2000 Neon he said that is where his sits all the time.

This car is for my step son who doesn’t have his license yet. But should in the next month or so. By then it’s supposed to be in the 60’s around here and I can work on the heat this summer when I have some time.

The big projects left are front wheel bearings, transmission filter and fluids and an oil change. There are still plenty of small bugs to work out.
A company called Gates makes good aftermarket belts and belt accessories and a lot of the times is the supplier for OEM. I have literally installed hundreds of Gates products. This would be a good alternative to OEM.
I also use Gates products and if you have an issue with an ADP pulley on an alternator Gates are the only ones I use even now there are Chinese knock offs for half the price.

What does the wear pattern on the tire look like?

It’s also worth mentioning that Rock Auto has a good selection. A lot of time they have NOS (New Old Stock) OEM parts.

I needed wheel sensors for my 08 Caravan. Rock Auto had them in stock and the price was right. They were advertised as Airtex brand. When they came they were in a Mopar box with an Airtex sticker covering the Mopar logo, you could see the logo through the sticker. The fonts and all the print on the part matched the old part perfectly. There were marks on the connectors that matched and would typically not be on an aftermarket part.

The used one was $500 plus fluids and filter. They quoted $1800 to pull the old one and rebuild that one and reinstall it. That of course included all the fluids, etc.
The best thing you can do for that transmission is to add an external transmission cooler to it if it doesn’t already have one.
I believe that generation has a factory installed transmission cooler.

I have an 08 Caravan. It calls for ATF+4 that costs about $6-7 a quart unless you buy it at Wal-Mart it’s $4.50 there. My van has 210K on it. The transmission died at 167K. I replaced it with a junkyard 86K transmission and filled it and it has ran flawless. Even though as you noted they aren’t the smoothest shifting transmission. But as everyone knows Chrysler transmissions have always had issues.

Rock Auto is good. Don’t forget you can get coupon codes for Advance online and buy online and pick it up in the store.

I have found some things look identical but the dealer part that costs 5 times what it should work better. A lot of times you can get new OEM parts on eBay for a good deal.

Get a set of ramps if you are doing simple oil changes.

Trash the tire and get a new or even a decent used one.

One final thing, did you run the car until the upper rad hose was hot? If not there is air behind the thermostat
It ran for 20 minutes idling in a level driveway. The upper radiator hose got up to about 80F while the thermostat housing and the 2 heater hoses going into the heater core were at 130F and the fans kicked in.
Negligible except most people aren’t driving to a dealership when AZ or AA is a few blocks away. Stant has been fine for me for 30k and it doesn’t even have a release pinhole.
Our dealer is actually a block closer than all 3. Actually they are relocating Napa across the street from AA. So we will have 4 parts stores on 1 block and all our factory dealers a block from that.
