Don’t throw parts at it. Do all injectors click? After sitting a few years they may well need cleaning. If some plug wires are showing bad resistance, I suggest to use new aftermarket NGK’s or even used (but tested good) OEM’s. Test everything step by step. If compression is good, everything else is pretty simple and cheap to fix.
Test compression. Adjust valves.
I have the same problem on 2002 Honda Accord. Removing number 2 plug wire kills the engine. But I have rough idle and bucking on acceleration too. Is your car’s idle smooth and there are no other performance problems?
Did emissions check, passed with no problems. CO = 0, CH = 140. (Two years ago, when bucking problem wasn’t there, emissions were: CO = 0,1 CH = 160). Still no resolution to bucking on acceleration problem, still waiting for any suggestions on what to check..
Check pre-cat O2 sensor. Check for exaust backpressure. If EGR system is present, check it too.
Personally I’m not a big fan of such procedure. Did this for my late `97 civic few years ago. It burned oil at high rate, so I thought that oil rings may be stuck and this procedure might do something about that (oil rings were actually not stuck but gone as it turned out later). Used about a liter of distilled water (sprayed mist, not poured, pouring seems kinda dangerous to me, but that’s just me, holding rpms at about 3000). Mileage was about 200.000 miles. Procedure did nothing good or bad. I think regular oil changes and some high speed (and high rpm) highway driving is enough to maintain good engine health. I did this just before the oil change, I think it’s the best time to do that if you really want to.

Check valve clearences. Adjust if needed. Check compression on all cylinders. Make sure that all injectors “click”

TPS and MAP sensors are connected properly and not mixed up after throttle body cleaning? Is check engine light on?

I bet car was abused by previous owner. People don’t buy BMW’s to ride like a grandma
