Same thing happened to my honda, the only real way to stop the rust from spreading is by cutting out the rusted section so there is no more rust and then paint whats left. but the problem is on these cars thats where the rear bumper bolts to. the only way to help slow it down is spray a coating of paint/ grease/ oil or anything that will prevent more oxygen from getting to the steel. this may help slow it down but ultimitley the rust will still spread. its not a cheap repair to have down at a body shop unfortunetly.
