Thanks for the review I’ve heard of G/P but haven’t given much thought about putting them in my box until now.Your review sold me on trying a set I had to order them in so I will post what I think about them in a couple days .

You’re going to get hired eventually keep trying and don’t give up . Also make sure you look interested in the the job not desperate for the job when you interview.

7/16″ wrench was the first tool I ever lost in a costumers car a snap on to boot . While for the most part I’m a team player and all I was knowen as one of the biggest hard asses in the shop when it came to loaning tools and the next job I needed that wrench (don’t know why I didn’t have a spare of some sort) and had to barrow from another tech . I got a lot of ribbing for it the rest of the day which I deserved. In the end I lightened up a lot on my no one but me touches my tools policy !!!

I started at a large GM dealer ship and it was great for keeping my training & knowledge of GM up to date if we needed class time we got it for the most part . I got the job with an 2 year tech degree and 3 ASE certification test passed at the time. I dont think I could have started in the shop walking into the interview without at least one of those. Over time I moved onto other dealerships and a independent . The independent was great to work for but I was no longer getting the extra training I was getting at the dealer . Unfortunately the franchise I worked for was horribly managed and would hire a trained ape as long as it owned its own tools so I can’t offer an opinion on that other than if you find that you have taken a job at a shop and it turns out to be a parts swap scam get the hell out fast!
All of my interviews required that I have either a tech degree of some sort and or ASE certifications except for that franchise shop I worked for . I should have known better but I needed I job so I guess I’m saying if good employment requires an education don’t sell yourself short by working for a shop that wouldn’t require some effort on your part to have gotten some education or at least started trying for your ASE’s. BTW I left that franchise as soon as I figured out what was going on if any one was wondering.I started at a large GM dealer ship and it was great for keeping my training & knowledge of GM up to date if we needed class time we got it for the most part . As a tech that moved on to a different career path but still works on vehicals in my spare time (you can never stop wrenching if its in your blood ) I toltaly agree with you on becoming out moded . I can definitely say that ten years ago I was one hell of a master tech but as each year goes by I find myself more and more in the dark than in the know about the new systems that are being incorporated in newer vehicles . Now I’m feeling like a dinosaur that keeps dinosaurs running. I can’t complain as I like what I do now (its not that far removed from being a auto tech and pays as good )but it’s hard to admit to my self that I’m no longer the go to guy for automotive work that I used to be.

Hi I’m Mike and I was an ASE certified tech for a number of years before moving on to automation. My certifications have lapsed but I still work on cars in my own home shop after work and weekends . So I hope its still OK to post some of my experiences on this tech only site when I have one to share.

After years of working in dealerships and small shops I started to become burnt out . Shop politics and bad choices on my part (literally ran out of town because I was stupid enough to sign a no competition clause for a large Chevy dealer in a small city) I quit . I than shuffled around in the job market for a couple years before I became an automation tech for a large company. After four years of going back to school and hard work I became the head tech and have loved every day of it for the past nine year’s. I make better money than I did wrenching on cars and don’t have the stress of flat rate hanging over my head.
I still have the itch I can’t scratch for working on cars and still work on them in my spare time . Also watch the vidio OUT MODED he is speaking the absolute truth on that . I am no more than an out moded auto tech because I moved on to automation. Im on hell of an automation tech now and I’m fine with that. So if you move on you will need to be fine with what you become or be unhappy.
